Case Processing
Travel Ban
My parents applied for my brother’s immigration visa since 2016. My brother had an interview but they refused to give him the visa because of the ban that was placed and the interviewer asked him to get a lawyer. However there is an exempt for U.S. family who apply for their children. Does the exemption apply to him even when he is over 21? We are so discouraged and as an active duty in the military not sure how I can help him.
I-765 and I-485
After completing my biometrics on November 4, 2025, I noticed that within an hour, my I-765 moved to Step 3 (Case Decision) and my I-485 jumped directly to Step 4 (Case Decision), skipping Step 3 (Interview Completed), suggesting the interview may have been waived.
From your experience, does an interview waiver usually mean that the FBI and DHS background checks are cleared and the case
is straightforward at this stage?
Also, is it possible that some cases are pre-reviewed before biometrics?

OPT to AOS based EAD
I am currently on OPT which expires in Jan 2026, and eligible for STEM OPT.
I currently have a pending I485 and I765
I have done my biometrics already and waiting for decision.
I am thinking of abandoning my OPT if I get my EAD pending AOS Card and use the new card.
would this be okay? or I can use both ?
A call from USCIS
I received a phone call from USCIS today. About a month ago, I submitted an expedite request for my VAWA case since it’s been three years and two months with no update. Then, just this past Sunday, I sent an email to the VAWA office following up on the request.
This morning, while I was at work, I got a call from “USCIS” — that’s exactly what appeared on my phone screen, but no number was shown. My heart dropped when I saw it. I answered, and the officer asked me to verify my name, address, my parents’ names, case number, and the date I filed my VAWA. She said they had received both my expedite request and my request for an online access code, and that the access code would be mailed to me within three days. (That part confused me.)
I immediately called my lawyer, who mentioned that USCIS usually calls only when someone requests an online access code — though I don’t recall making that request. I also asked about the parole fee and whether it applies to me as a VAWA applicant. The officer said , “If you receive payment instructions in the mail or online, follow the payment instructions and just pay.” But I’m confused because other lawyers, including mine previously, said the parole fee doesn’t apply to VAWA applicants.
Has anyone else recently received a phone call from USCIS regarding an online access code or an expedite request?

Received an email "Action taken on your case"
I-485 Approval Pending, EAD+AP combo received few months back. I received an email from USCIS saying an action taken on Oct 31st. it appears to be a AP fee notice upload. My question is it purely an admin update to upload the letter or is it because my file was picked up and system triggered as they are taking necessary actions on my I-485 application.
Email received - Oct 31st
Doc attached - Nov 1st (AP Fee Notice)
Case remains to be under processing with Interview waived off on May 9th 2025. the application is being processed in NBC. Any comments would be appreciated.
