Case Approved
AOS San Jose FO (concurrently filled - I-485/130/765/131 and I-693)
My husband and I had our interview this past week and would like to share our experience in case it may help
Our interview was scheduled for 10/26/2021 at 12pm. We arrived to the FO around 11:30am and started to line up around 11:45am. As we entered the building, their first check point a security personal asked us COVID related questions and asked to see our IDs and interview notice. As that was done, we moved to the typical security screening ( ie take off shoes, belts, phones, etc). Then we got our waiting number. We didn’t wait in the waiting room too long before we our number was called by an officer. The officer led us to the interview room and we took our oath. She had us sign lawyer representation waiver. We had to sign one since we filed with a lawyer, but he was not present with us for the interview. She then asked both of us standard questions such as names, DOB, where we were born. Then she proceeded to ask my husband questions on his i485 form. Since my husband had switched jobs and we had moved apartments, she updated that information on her copy of the i485. She then asked us to give her a rundown of our relationship : How and when we met (Month and year was enough ), the proposal (if one), ceremony and future plans. My husband started first then I would chime in. It felt more like a conversation rather than interview. After all said and done, it took about 15 minutes for the interview and she approved us! She updated our status in the system and said it takes about 24 hours to show on the webiste. And my husband should be getting his card in 2-6 weeks. We were so surprised how quickly it went. I don’t know if I watch too many crime shows, but I was expecting a dark, windowless room lol and it was the opposite. We felt very welcomed by all the personnel and they greeted us so nicely. It was very diffierent than what we had been expecting. The officer who interviewed us was very friendly and welcoming.

travel / work after i485 approved, before permanent resident card OR requesting a temporary i551 impacting the approval?
Hi, I am curious to know if I can travel or start working once my i485 is approved, but before I receive the green card on hand, is that legal? uscis website states that the date of i485 approval is used for the citizenship counter to start, as you are becoming a legal permanent resident. if that’s the case, doesn’t that also mean that you get the right to travel or work as well?
on a side note, if I try to get a temporary i551 stamp for travel or work while waiting for the permanent card, is there a chance that USCIS might revisit the case because of the temporary i551 request or interview? or once it’s approved, it’s approved and period?
thank you!
EAD finally approved after expedition
After months of anxious waiting, finally received the good news today that my EAD is being produced and that I can start working again!! I’ve submitted two expedition requests via Emma to no avail; eventually, the senator’s office was able to get through to USCIS on the basis of financial loss (submitted a copy of job offer). Much gratitude.
best of luck to all of you out there!
