J-1 extension with Pending I-485
I would value perspectives from immigration attorneys and practitioners on a nuanced status question.
Scenario:
Pending I-485 (Adjustment of Status)
Not subject to the 212(e) two-year home residency requirement
No plans for international travel
J-1 program sponsor is willing to extend the DS-2019
The individual would remain in the U.S. during the extension period
In this context:
1. Does extending J-1 status itself create any meaningful risk to the pending I-485?
2. How does USCIS assess immigrant intent when the applicant remains in the U.S. and is not seeking visa stamping or reentry?
3. Are there known adjudication trends or case examples where this created complications?
Finally Approved.
God said Yes to me today. My experience has been a roller coaster of emotions and I found some answers here where I would filter every step I was in to see who else has been or is going through the same experiences.
I can finally testify here that God's timing overseas all the other emotions I had prior.
PD 2022. multiple interviews canceled to a noid after 6 months to denial. But today God Had already been there. May He Go before you all and prepare a victorious win.

accuracy of Emma/live agent
Hi all,
l1a to eb1c here
my I-485 has been pending since June 2025. reached out to a live agent via Emma and found out my case moved to Albany (non local field office) and my case has been marked as interview waived.
the case status update hasn’t changed since my biometrics appointment back in July.
is this information usually accurate?
