Citizenship after an 11-month trip abroad with a re-entry permit. Can the "broken residence" presumption be overcome?
Looking for information and experiences on this situation:
A green card holder (derivative spouse on an employment-based green card) plans to file the N-400 under the 5-year rule. She needs to be abroad for about 11 months, with a re-entry permit, to take care of a sick mother-in-law.
I understand a re-entry permit protects the green card but doesn't preserve continuous residence, and that an absence of 6–12 months creates a presumption of broken residence.
Situation:
1. About 95 days abroad before this trip, so about 430 days total. Physical presence is fine.
2. Spouse stays in the US, in the same state
3. Joint lease, joint bills, joint tax returns filed as residents
4. Keeps a US bank account and valid driver's license
5. No job abroad
6. Minor US citizen kids travel with her and stay enrolled in a US online school (not a local school) to return to US public school easily
7. Medical records and doctor's letters for the sick parent
Questions:
Has anyone been approved for citizenship after a 6–12 month trip? What evidence helped?
Does a caregiving reason with medical documents help overcome the presumption?
Is one 11-month trip worse than several trips under 6 months?
Any experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Asylum-Based I-485 – Interview Status After Mandamus Lawsuit
Hi everyone,
I filed my asylum-based I-485 in August 2024, and my case had been stuck at “Fingerprints Were Taken” for a long time.
I recently filed a federal mandamus lawsuit due to the delay.
Today, October 19, 2026, my USCIS status changed to “Case Is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview.”
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar.
1. Did anyone receive this status after filing mandamus?
2. How long did it take for USCIS to actually schedule the interview?
3. For asylum-based I-485 cases, was the interview straightforward?
4. Did anyone receive approval without an interview after getting this status?
I’m especially interested in experiences involving asylum-based green card applications and mandamus lawsuits.
Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Has anyone received Biometrics for H1B transfer?
Dec 19, 2025 - Last day with my previous employer
Jan 5, 2026 - Reciept notice by current employer
Regular processing
Oct 13, 2026 - Request for initial evidence
Oct 16, 2026 - Bio metrics scheduled
Has anyone ever received a Biometrics scheduled for an H1B transfer due to changing employers?
Nothing major apart from having a speeding ticket in 2024 that resulted in a court date. I hired a lawyer, did community service, defensive driving class and it was downgraded.
My student visa expired in 2025 and I don’t have an H1B visa stamped. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks

Nebula Review: Exploring the Beauty of Cosmic Clouds
Nebulae are among the most fascinating objects in astronomy, offering a glimpse into the processes that shape our universe. These enormous clouds of gas and dust can stretch across vast regions of space, creating colorful structures that attract the attention of astronomers and stargazing enthusiasts.
One of the most remarkable features of a nebula is its appearance. Depending on its composition and the surrounding stars, a nebula may display shades of red, blue, purple, and green in astronomical images. Some nebulae are regions where new stars form, while others consist of material released by dying stars.
Observing nebulae can help scientists understand stellar evolution, the distribution of cosmic matter, and the formation of planetary systems. Popular examples include the Orion Nebula, the Eagle Nebula, and the Crab Nebula, each offering unique scientific insights.
Although many nebulae are difficult to observe with the naked eye, telescopes and astrophotography reveal extraordinary details. Studying these cosmic structures makes astronomy more engaging and helps us appreciate the complexity and beauty of the universe.
USPS did not deliver card and tracking not updated
So, it’s been 4 days that USPS is supposed to have delivered my card but haven’t done so. Uninterestingly, the tracking hasn’t been updated for 8 days. According to the last scan that I can see online, it’s stuck in Kansas MO facility. No package scanning, no new delivery date. Anyone have an idea about what to do in this situation?
documentos en el aeropuerto
Hey everyone! I’m currently renewing my green card, and I was given a temporary proof of my permanent resident status. I’m about to travel internationally and wanted to make sure that my passport and this temporary document are the only things I need to bring with me to travel and re-enter the U.S. Has anyone traveled with these documents while waiting for their green card renewal? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you! ❤️
¡Muchas gracias!
asylum
People are saying that everyone who received the FBI letter will get their asylum decision soon. I’m not sure if that’s true, because some people who haven’t even had their asylum interview have received the letter too.
What do you all think? Have you received the FBI letter? Please share your experiences in the comments! 😇
PD 2021 Nov
Hi everyone!
My pd is Nov 2021, been current for approx 6 months, but no update on case. Had my interview back in 2024. I did congressional inquiry about 4 months ago, but got same generic response that case is waiting background checks. Should I wait or seek mandamus option? Getting anxious now. 😢
