Asylum-Based I-485 – Interview Status After Mandamus Lawsuit
Hi everyone, I filed my asylum-based I-485 in August 2024, and my case had been stuck at “Fingerprints Were Taken” for a long time. I recently filed a federal mandamus lawsuit due to the delay. Today, October 19, 2026, my USCIS status changed to “Case Is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview.” I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar. 1. Did anyone receive this status after filing mandamus? 2. How long did it take for USCIS to actually schedule the interview? 3. For asylum-based I-485 cases, was the interview straightforward? 4. Did anyone receive approval without an interview after getting this status? I’m especially interested in experiences involving asylum-based green card applications and mandamus lawsuits. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

I filed my mandamus lawsuit on August 28, 2026, in the District of New Jersey (Third Circuit). The government was served on September 8. Today, October 19 (day 52 after filing), my asylum-based I-485 status changed to “Ready to Be Scheduled for an Interview.”

Some people have their cases approved without an interview, while others, like you, receive an interview notice. The interview process depends on the officer handling your case. Make sure to review your asylum application carefully, especially the reasons you sought asylum. They may also ask general questions, such as whether you have ever been arrested. If you were arrested in your home country, make sure to disclose it honestly and provide accurate information.
