Case Processing

Wife’s separate asylum case still showing as pending after she received derivative asylum — how do we withdraw it?
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone has been in a similar situation. I was the principal asylum applicant, and my wife was included in my case as my derivative. My asylum was eventually approved, and my wife was also granted asylum as my derivative. The problem is that my wife had also filed her own separate I-589 asylum application, and that case is still showing as pending. After our asylum approval, my wife received an interview notice for her separate asylum case. Our lawyer contacted USCIS and explained that she had already received derivative asylum through my approved case. The lawyer asked them to remove/close her separate asylum case. However, the case is still showing as pending, and she continues to receive Annual Asylum Fee notices for that case. Then, three days ago, she received another notification regarding the pending asylum case. What should we do to properly withdraw or close her separate I-589? Should we send USCIS a signed withdrawal letter? If so, where should it be sent? Should we include copies of her derivative asylum approval and my asylum approval notice? Has anyone successfully withdrawn a separate pending I-589 after becoming a derivative asylee? We just want to make sure the separate case is properly closed and that we don’t do anything that could cause a problem with her existing derivative asylum status. Thank you!
The green card is in my hands, and it is really green.
MY GREEN CARD TESTIMONY — GOD DID IT 🙏🏾🇺🇸 Today, I am officially a United States Permanent Resident. I’m posting this because somewhere, someone is sitting at home refreshing their USCIS account, crying, praying, losing sleep, or wondering if their immigration journey will ever end. Please don’t lose hope. My journey was not easy. Not even close. This journey started years ago. I went through denial after denial. I went through multiple I-485 denials, multiple I-601 waiver denials, 11 RFEs, 3 NOIDs, an immigration interview, years of waiting, uncertainty, fear, tears, frustration, and disappointment. There were times when I genuinely did not understand why I had to keep going through so much. I would see other people getting approved while I was still waiting. I watched cases that were filed long after mine move forward while mine seemed stuck. But I kept fighting. And more importantly, I kept praying. At one point, I actually went to the USCIS office. I stood outside that building and prayed. 🙏🏾 I prayed over the place where my case was being handled. I asked God to go where I could not go, touch the people I could not reach, and move what I could not move myself. There were moments when I cried. Moments when I was angry. Moments when I was exhausted. Moments when I questioned everything. But I kept telling myself: God did not bring me this far just to abandon me here. Eventually, after years of waiting and trying everything I knew to do, I decided I could not continue sitting silently. I filed a federal mandamus lawsuit. I did it pro se, without an attorney. I learned how to prepare the paperwork. I filed my case in federal court. I learned about summonses and service. I served the government and kept pushing. I was scared because I am not a lawyer. I didn't know everything. I made mistakes, asked questions, learned, corrected them, and kept going. And then... MY CASE WAS APPROVED. 😭🙏🏾💚 Today I am holding the card that I spent YEARS praying to hold. When I look at this Green Card, I don't just see a piece of plastic. I see every denial. Every RFE. Every NOID. Every waiver. Every envelope. Every tracking number. Every USCIS notification that made my heart race. Every night I couldn't sleep. Every prayer. Every tear. Every time I wanted to give up but somehow found enough strength to try one more time. And I especially remember standing outside that USCIS office and praying. God heard me. This testimony isn't to tell anyone that their case will happen exactly like mine. Every immigration case is different, and sometimes the road is painfully long. I'm sharing it because I know what hopelessness feels like. If you're reading this while waiting on USCIS, please know that somebody who went through denial after denial is sitting here today holding her Green Card. I once prayed for the picture I'm able to take today. After almost eight years of fighting, I can finally say: I AM A PERMANENT RESIDENT. 🇺🇸💚😭 Thank you, God. Not because the road was easy. Not because everything happened when I wanted it to. But because through every closed door, every disappointment, every delay and every moment when I thought I couldn't take anymore, You carried me. This is my testimony. From denials to approval. From tears to testimony. From waiting to holding the card in my own hands. 🙏🏾 TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY. 💚🇺🇸 And to whoever is still waiting: Your story isn't finished just because you're in a difficult chapter. Keep praying. Keep advocating for yourself. Keep learning. Keep going. Today, I'm finally closing this chapter. GREEN CARD IN HAND. 💚😭🙏🏾🇺🇸 And this Green Card is not the end of my story. It is the beginning of another chapter. I am currently in school working toward my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) because I want a career where I can care for and serve others. And now, I am also preparing to join the United States Army. 🇺🇸🪖 Think about that for a moment. After spending years fighting for the opportunity to build my life in this country, I am now preparing to put on the uniform and serve this country. I went from wondering whether I would ever receive my Green Card to studying for my BSN, preparing for the Army, raising my children, building my future, and finally holding that little card in my hands. God turned my waiting season into a testimony and gave me another chapter to write. My story is bigger than immigration. It is about perseverance, faith, education, service, motherhood, and refusing to let tragedy or disappointment decide how my story ends. Almost eight years. Multiple denials. Multiple waivers. 11 RFEs. 3 NOIDs. An interview. Tears. Prayers. A federal lawsuit. And finally… APPROVED. Now it's time for the next mission: BSN loading… 🩺🎓 U.S. Army loading… 🪖🇺🇸 Green Card: IN MY HAND. 💚 To God be ALL the glory. 🙏🏾 If you're still waiting, please don't look at my picture and only see the approval. Remember everything that came before it. There was a time when I was the person reading other people's approval stories and wondering, “God, when will it be my turn?” Today, I became one of those stories. 💚😭🇺🇸
