Can I Apply for U.S. Citizenship Before My marriage
I’m a green card holder, eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship on January 20, 2025. My wedding is in October 2025, and my fiancée lives in India (not a green card holder).
Should I apply before the wedding, or wait? Will it affect her visa process later?
Any advice is appreciated.
Can I Apply for U.S. Citizenship Before My Wedding?
Hello everyone,
I’m seeking advice regarding my U.S. citizenship application timeline. I am currently a green card holder, and my five-year residency requirement will be fulfilled on January 20, 2025. My wedding is planned for October 2025, and my fiancée, who resides in India, is not a green card holder.
I am unsure whether I should apply for citizenship before my wedding or wait until after. My main concerns are:
1. Will applying for citizenship affect my ability to sponsor my fiancée for a visa in the future?
2. Are there any benefits to applying before my wedding?
3. Could it delay or complicate the process of bringing my fiancée to the U.S.?
I would greatly appreciate any guidance or personal experiences from those who’ve been in a similar situation.
Thank you!
Request for Initial Evidence
Hi everyone, I recently submitted my case to USCIS, at first it was the I-130 and last month I submitted I-485 and I765. today my husband who is the petitioner got a notification saying they took action on the case. when I logged into my account there was a RFIE, however when I logged into my account on lawfully it said that I received a request for initial evidence or a notice of intent to deny. either way I am little freaked out. anyone in a similar situation?
pretty long and stressful waiting. I wish everyone the best outcomes
Pretty long waiting, I sent 2 SR on July and November.

My VAWA was approved on September 6, but since then, there has been no update on my I-485 form. It's been more than three months now. I called USCIS and spoke to the bot. When I checked the status of my case, the bot informed me that my case is at the NBC. However, I never received an update about my case being transferred. I'm tired of waiting for the medical RFE! Is anyone else in the same situation? How long did it take for you to receive the medical RFE?
new card being produced 485
it was not an easy journey. finally I can close this immigration chapter.
throughout this entire process, I realized that the more documentation you provide the less chances are for a rfe. I received birth certificate rfe, then they put me in CRP and then they gave me second rfe for marriage and new medicals. happy to help community in any way. good luck and thank you all in advance.
