Case Processing
I-485 Based on Granted Asylum – Filed 11/01/2024, Still Waiting After 23 Months – NBC Worked My Case on 09/18/2026
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has a similar timeline and can share their experience.
My case is I-485 based on granted asylum:
* Asylum granted by Immigration Judge: August 2024
* I-485 filed: November 1, 2024
* Biometrics: December 4, 2024
* RFE: None
* Interview: None so far
* No major updates since biometrics
* Service Center: National Benefits Center (NBC)
I recently contacted a USCIS live agent, and they told me:
“An officer last worked your case on 09/18/2026.”
They also said that once NBC finishes processing the case, USCIS will forward it to the local field office for further processing.
My case has now been pending for almost 2 years.
Is anyone here with a similar timeline, especially people who filed around October–December 2024?
* When did you get your approval?
* Did your case transfer from NBC to a field office?
* Did you have an interview or RFE?
* Did you file a Writ of Mandamus, or did USCIS approve it without WOM?
* If your case was recently approved, how many days/months did you wait?
I would really appreciate it if anyone with a similar asylum-based I-485 timeline could share their experience. It would be very helpful to know whether cases around my filing date are finally moving.
Thank you! 🙏

B2 extension
My B-2 extension of stay (Form I-539) is still pending. I filed the I-539 before my I-94 expired on May 16, 2026.
What happens if I leave the United States before USCIS makes a decision? Will leaving while my application is pending affect my B-2 visa or my ability to enter the U.S. in the future? Could I be banned from entering the U.S.?
Also, what happens if USCIS does not make a decision until November 16, 2026, which is about six months after my I-94 expired? If USCIS approves the extension after November 16, would the six-month extension be counted from May 17, 2026, or from the date USCIS approves it?
I’m losing hope.. Please tell me if you’ve been approved recently for AP or EAD?
Please write if you are VAWA pending EAD and AP. I’ve been waiting for over 15 months to get an approval. My congressman sent letter, I sent multiple expedite requests and no one is responding for months. If you applied June or July 2025 and got your EAD and AP recently please let me know, I’m struggling bad with this wait times

Stuck in background check for 20 months (C09 First EAD). Lawyer wants me to refile. Anyone experience this?
Hey everyone,
I’m in a really stressful situation and need some advice or to hear from anyone who went through this.
I applied for my first work permit (Form I-765, C09 category) based on a pending green card (I-485). It has now been almost 20 months and I still haven't received it.
I recently asked my local Congresswoman’s office for help. Her caseworker got a reply from USCIS stating that my case is "pending background check clearance" and that they cannot provide a timeline or deadline. My lawyer also sent an official inquiry but got no response.
Now, my lawyer is advising me to completely refile a brand-new Form I-765 to try and trigger a fresh fingerprint check and bypass the old system hold.
Has anyone else been stuck in a background check hole for nearly 2 years? Did refiling a new I-765 actually work for me, or did it just cause more delays? Should I try the DHS Ombudsman first before paying to refile?
Any timelines, success stories, or advice would be deeply appreciated. Thank you! 🙏
