Updating surname after DQ

Has anyone updated surname after DQ but before Immigration Interview? Did you have any issues? Currently passport has only given name and blank surname so NVC made it: "FNU Jane Do" I want to add my spouse surname (Smith) to passport so name will now be: "Jane Do Smith" Has anyone done this? I received notification in informed delivery today for SSN, however did not receive it. I received 2/3 other mails. has anyone experienced the same with SSN? any recommendations?
