Renouncing GC for Visa
Looking for experiences or advice from anyone who has gone through something similar.
My family members are long-term green card holders who have spent the past several years living primarily outside the U.S. Their pattern has been short visits to the U.S. — roughly 15–20 days every few months — while maintaining homes, businesses, and their day-to-day life abroad. They are now considering voluntarily surrendering their green cards via I-407 at a U.S. embassy and simultaneously applying for B1/B2 tourist visas, since that reflects how they actually live.
The complicating factor is that their children are U.S. citizens and reside in the U.S. The visits would primarily be to see family.
Has anyone been through this or know someone who has? Specifically:
- Did the B1/B2 get approved after surrendering the green card?
- Did the consular officer raise the citizen children as a concern?
- Is there a sequencing approach that worked better — e.g. applying for B1/B2 before surrendering?
Not looking for legal advice, just real experiences. We're also consulting an attorney but wanted to hear from people who've actually navigated this.

#VAWA #RFE (February, 2022).
Greetings everyone, in the month of March I have submitted an expidate request for my C09 EAD via my local congressman's office, and later I have received a phone call from USCIS for uploading the documents. Few days later, they said my expidate request was approved. Later I was scheduled for a biometrics to the old state which was I living in. Again I have reached out to my congressman's office, they havr submitting a request with USCIS and I was rescheduled for biometrics in my current location.
May 01, 2026, went it for the appointment, and they took the picture. Maybe for C09 EAD.
Simultaneously, I received an update on I360 RFE was sent, and I485 was moved to VT service center.
1. My RFE packet was sent by Attorney. How long will take them to update the status, and make a decision on my case?
2. My Biometrics appointment has been completed, how much will it take for them to process my EAD C09?
I strongly recommend you guys to gather or organize your evidence as much as possible even before the RFE strikes, just in case. it will be overwhelming to respond within the deadline, and going through everything again.
Here is the RFE:

I-130 Notice Explaining USCIS’ Actions Was Mailed.
Hello everyone, I have a question. My I-130 and I-485 were filed together in July 2024. My interview was completed in July 2025. After that, in early August, my I-130 status changed to “Case Is Being Actively Reviewed.” About six months later, my I-485 also changed to “Case Is Being Actively Reviewed.”
I crossed my 2-year marriage anniversary on April 1. Today, I received a notification on my I-130 case saying, “Notice Explaining USCIS’ Actions Was Mailed.” Has anyone received the same notification before, and what did it mean in your case?

My I131 got approved
I was surprised that only the last five months were approved, even though the posted processing time is around 22 months.
