What difference between RTD and Reentry Permit
I applied refugee travel document (RTD) with Green Card holder. But today I got a friend who applied for Reentry Permit with GC holder too. Her permit approved and valid for 2 years and she said my RTD will validate for 1 year (I already know that). Now, I want to understand the difference. We both (she and me) applied with green card holders, let me know your experience please 🙏. Thank you 😊

yours is for travel, so instead of using a passport u use the RTD, hers is to allow her to stay longer than 6 months outside of USA and come back in without problems

can asylee also use reentry permit

@josue Villanueva I understand with RTD I can’t stay 6+ months outside but Reentry yes. Also, it doesn’t mean she suppose to travel for more than 6 months, she can travel for just 1 week outside with the permit. I think I supposed to apply for Reentry Permit too.

@LN Asylee as a green card holder based on asylum you can travel on either RTD or RP. RTD is better because it allows visa free entry access to Germany, Belgium, Italy etc. And its primary purpose is for asylee/GC holder based on asylum to travel. Reentry Permit is a document that allows you to be outside the US for an extended period of time and not lose permanent resident status. That being said, some GC holders prefer RP to RTD because it’s valid for 2 years and RTD for 1 year. I think it’s your call, whatever you want. But travel on RP might be a bit more challenging because fewer countries accept it than RTD.

@A K I understand but I don’t have plan to travel to Europe. I just want to travel some countries in America, for me the RP would be better option

@LN Asylee then you have your answer. Just make sure to reach out to embassies and ask if you need a visa in your RP.
