Visa extension
Hi, I want you to help me, I came to USA few months ago for 1 month just to help my mom to go to a clinic to verify why her left leg was hurting, they found that a bladder cancer had made metatasis in the left bone, seeing the situation I decided to change my return to my country for 1 month again, the doctors decided to give her quimiotherapy, and she is in this process, they say treatment will take a long time, my concern is, my stay is about to expire, she is resident, but I am a visitor, if I file an extension to USCIS, explaining the truth, that I am the only one that can be with her helping her in averything, as she cannot walk, it won’t be any issue, a visitor can ask for an extension to take care of her mother because of a cancer?… with this kind of Visa USCIS can accept an extension?…. thank you for your help in advance!…

you have up to 6 months or a year to stay in US with your B1/B2 visa. After spending 6 months, you need an extension of 6 more months. So if you didn't spend 6 months in the US already do not worry yourself. You still good. Your plane ticket you should have made it "open" or "unknown" like that you could have go back whenever you want to without worrying yourself to pay extra fees. I'm so sorry for your mom and I wish her speedy recovery.

Yes I know I have 6 months to stay, but those 6 months are about to expire, what I want to be sure is if asking USCIS an extension because of this issue is allowed with this kind of Visa, remember that this kind of visa is for vacation, I don’t know if asking an extension for medical purposes for a near family in this case a mother is allowed…

It depends on the length of your visa. Since the visa is just for 6 months of stay, you should ask for another extension with proof of why she should get an extension and she has a good reason for the extension to be approved.

Ok thank you, so you mean with this kind of visa I can ask for an extension, no matter if it’s for medical purposes, and of course I have proof of everything…
