USCIS reopened my case
someone should please make me understand what is going on please . USCIS sent a notice that they have reopened my previous case I 485 that was administratively closed due to removal proceedings . removal proceedings was terminated and instead of trying to wait for reopened case, I just filed a new I 485 .. since nov 23 waiting in a decision on that but they sent An rfe from field office in Indianapolis for proof of marriage . does that mean they will make decision on the reopened case and close the new one I filed ? someone should explain to me please

Here’s an explanation for your situation:
1. Case Reopening:
USCIS reopened the original Form I-485 case that had been administratively closed during removal proceedings. Reopening a case means USCIS is reviewing it again and considering it active. This likely happened because the removal proceedings were terminated, clearing the way for the original adjustment of status case to proceed.
2. Filing a New I-485:
Filing a second I-485 while the original case is being reopened creates two active applications. USCIS generally doesn’t allow multiple I-485 applications to proceed simultaneously. They usually decide on the reopened case first, as it was filed earlier, and may close the second application.
3. RFE for Proof of Marriage:
The RFE from the Indianapolis Field Office indicates that USCIS is actively working on one of the I-485 cases. Since marriage proof is required to process adjustment of status based on marriage, it’s crucial to respond to the RFE promptly and thoroughly. It’s unclear if the RFE is tied to the reopened or the new case, but responding will ensure progress in either case.
4. What Likely Happens Next:
• If USCIS processes the reopened case and approves it, they will likely close the newer case because it becomes redundant.
• If the reopened case is denied, USCIS may proceed with the newer application instead.
To clarify, you should call USCIS or submit an online inquiry to determine which case is being prioritized. A consultation with an immigration attorney could also provide tailored guidance, especially since removal proceedings were involved.

reopen ur case is more faster than filing new case . reopen is always at local office where they will just make decisions easily new application will have to go through service center first if ur were u I will withdraw my new application.

@freeman 1 withdraw ? is that not going to delay that what it is ?
freeman 1Jan 11, 2025
@Bo bo if u have 2 application they can only work on one . once ts approved they will deny the second one anyways . since they reopened the old i485 then the new application i485 not needed

@Bo bo it depend on the adjudication officer how busy ur field office is but typically should not take more than 90 days
