I don't think Asylum based can go home until you get your passport. at least that's what I heard . but you need to ask a attorney for that

@kelly Mcstar no, it’s not because you already did say to the immigration that is not safe for you to go back home. the fact that you dropped your asylum case doesn’t change that. You can travel just don’t go straight to your country.

it is absolutely safe to travel since your status was adjusted through marriage.

@mamiss ma it's a marriage based GC.

@S K I know the point you are making but it's a marriage based GC but asylum. it's a fair game

@kelly Mcstar I’m in the same situation - got the GC through other category and need to close my asylum case ASAP. Can you let me know how long did it take for you to close the case? Did you do anything extra other than sending the case termination letter to USCIS? Thanks so much!

@kelly Mcstar Not safe to travel to the country if persecution. People get away with it at times, but very risky and can cost you big time through a revocation of your green card. Having an asylum case closed does not automatically stop your claims of persecutions in your home country. That means that your green card based on marriage does not bar you from being persecuted by folks in your home country unless those persecutors are no longer there or even looking for you based on your claims of asylum. To sum up, heading back there with a green card is not smart and can land you in deportation proceedings. ICE can reopen your case of asylum to terminate your current greencard by claiming your lied on your claims because you still went back there and nothing happened to you upon your rerun to the states. So be very careful how you go about making those decisions. I’d say wait till you get your US passport and then you’ll be safe to go home.

@E Hopeful I just travelled twice actually and came back it was all good. no issues at immigration. they let me in without any questions regarding asylum. they didn’t even end know I had one or never cared to ask. but thanks for info. and my friend travlled too and he had citizenship interview and also passed that and never asked why he went back home. if you asylum is closed and have a valid reason there is no reason to be scared. thanks for your help
