I did 1/23. NY to LAX using my DL
NO issues
Mo MeFeb 3, 2025
@Tom chris I was definitely on high alert but I fly a couple times a years normally so…. only thing I’m concerned about is come May… DL will no longer be accept for domestic flights. you’ll need a REALID or passport and I much rather not fly using my foreign passport 👀
Tash BFeb 3, 2025
@Mo Me you can use your work authorization documents and apply for a real ID if you have one, bring the approval documents and card that you got from USCIS take them to DMV and they’ll update it.
To update to a Real ID, you typically need to provide: proof of identity (like a birth certificate or passport), proof of Social Security number, and proof of residency (like a utility bill), depending on your state's specific requirements; all documents must verify your citizenship or legal status in the United States.

I thought Drivers license is port of the realID as well ? its just different from a normal license
Kanye EastFeb 3, 2025
‘Starting May 7, 2025, you will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (or another TSA-accepted form of identification, such as a passport) to fly domestically within the U.S.
If you're flying before May 7, 2025, your standard driver’s license or ID is still valid for domestic flights’
Only US citizens and legal immigrants can get a real ID, whether you reside in a blue or red state & whether your state previously provided licenses/IDs to illegals immigrants or not - only legal residents & US citizens can get real ID.

@Kanye East I beg to disagree with you as long as you are documented you can get the real ID, the only difference is that EAD holders have Federal Limits Apply stated on the Drivers Licence while GC holders and Citizens doesn't have any Federal limits. I just applied for mine, please let's stop giving false information, so we do not scare people on this platform. You do not need your passport once you have the Real ID, it is only undocumented that will be using their passports to fly if they need to travel local. Thank you.

I did from NY to Houston using my ID
Mo MeFeb 3, 2025
@Tash B I tried and my DMV said I have to come back when I get my GC
Mo MeFeb 3, 2025
@folly folly I followed the information on NYS DMV and went in with all my documents and was refused. they told me come back when I get my GC although online said I had all the necessary documents

According to my lawyer, once the May 7th date happens, I can use my foreign passport to fly within the USA. However, I'm not planning to do so, just to be safe. I'm hopefully within 6 months of my interview and then LPR status. After this years-long journey, I don't want to do anything that could jeopardize that, especially with so many thing unpredictable with enforcement now that Trump is in office.
Mo MeFeb 4, 2025
@DQ'd / Waiting I’m definitely not planning on testing fate by using my foreign passport. I’ve worked too hard
survivor pFeb 4, 2025
@Tom chris I would say it’s perfectly fine as long as you use real ID, otherwise risky under this administration.
w s 🇨🇦🇺🇸Feb 4, 2025
I took about 20 trips or 40 flights within the US when I was waiting for my green card to be approved. I used my drivers license. not a single issue. why is everyone so scared?
Tom chrisFeb 4, 2025
I checked my state website and my current Drivers Lincense is a REALID
Richman .Feb 4, 2025
I am just from visiting Chicago, Dallas and Ohio. there were no issue at all. I used my dls
Tash BFeb 4, 2025
@Mo Me guessing it’s different in every state a friend of mine just got hers from using her WA documents, she did it in Florida
Mo MeFeb 4, 2025
@Tom chris it’s identified by a star ⭐️ on the top right corner
Mo MeFeb 4, 2025
@w s 🇨🇦🇺🇸 that was how long ago? I fly frequently before without issue as well however circumstances are now different. Some aren’t scared but definitely being cautious.
Mo MeFeb 4, 2025
@Tash B apparently. I was planning on going in again and see if I get a different result.
Kanye EastFeb 4, 2025
@folly folly What’s the difference between legal & documented?
Kanye EastFeb 4, 2025
@lwl e Real ID is for people who have papers. Whether you entered legally or not it wouldn’t matter, as long as you have at least an EAD (or any other document from the USCIS) which confirms your current legal status, you will get the real ID.
v KleoFeb 4, 2025
the real ID has a black or golden star at corner of your driver license .
survivor pFeb 4, 2025
@lwl e lol, I don’t have green card but I have real ID, so you are wrong my friend🤷♂️
Tash BFeb 4, 2025
@lwl e not true you can get a real ID without having a GC or being a citizen, enhanced ID is for US citizens alone.
Mo MeFeb 4, 2025
@Tash B correct 👍 however I think it still depends on the State you reside. Anyone in NYS has gotten a REALID with EAD& SSN?
God’s Goodness Feb 4, 2025
@lwl e you can get a real id once u have social security number and work authorization. you don’t have to be a GC holder or citizen
Rose peterFeb 4, 2025
I have a real ID. and am not a green card holder yet. I don’t even have a drivers license cause I hate to drive. the only thing is.. it’s written on it for identification only. the ID was given to me since 2022- to expire 2025 oct. how ever things are changing I don’t know if they stil do. other wise one don’t need to be a citizen or GC holder. Thank you

My husband just returned from a trip to NYC. My lawyer just told him to make sure that he carried his I-797 with him just in case. Nobody even asked for it but at least we were prepared.
folly follyFeb 6, 2025
@Mo Me Well in my state they only asked for EAD, SS, Bank statement and utility bill, which has been submitted, @lwl e please you are wrong. You do not have to be a citizen or GC holder before you can apply for a real ID atleast in my state Chicago, @Kanye East why such question?. Please let us all be careful with the information we share please. There's already enough tension in the air Please 🙏🏼
Mo MeFeb 6, 2025
@folly folly yes! I believe NYS just isn’t doing it… but im GREEN now 🙌I’ll apply for it ASAP
Tom chrisFeb 6, 2025
