travel / work after i485 approved, before permanent resident card OR requesting a temporary i551 impacting the approval?
Hi, I am curious to know if I can travel or start working once my i485 is approved, but before I receive the green card on hand, is that legal? uscis website states that the date of i485 approval is used for the citizenship counter to start, as you are becoming a legal permanent resident. if that’s the case, doesn’t that also mean that you get the right to travel or work as well?
on a side note, if I try to get a temporary i551 stamp for travel or work while waiting for the permanent card, is there a chance that USCIS might revisit the case because of the temporary i551 request or interview? or once it’s approved, it’s approved and period?
thank you!

as long you have your SS number is fine

thanks Nina! fine to travel? or to work? and any risk of getting my case “revisited” or reopened, if I try to get the temporary i551? I need to travel back home to take care of inheritance (have the supporting documents), but worried if this can impact their decision in any way?

well that's not considered humanitarian or emergency reasons.but if you travel and they scheduled your GC chances are they denied your case.I recommend not travel till you don't .have your AP or green card in hand. The I551 is the stamp for travel.like I said if they approved you to travel under a emergency permit is fine.Whrn you travel with emergency AP is ONLY for that travel.doenst impact the approval but if that triggers your GC interview an you are overseas you are screwed up

thank you Nina, but I already recieved a confirmation that my i485 was approved, so getting a bit confused about the interview point or them possibly denying?

if you re approved you are fine then .But you have to have your GC in hand

or use the AP.i don't understand why you ask all this if you are already approved.in your main question seems you didn't receive any approval

to clarify, I do need to travel and from what I understand the actual card on hand can take up to 2-3 months since approval, that is why trying to see what are my options in the meantime. I don’t have an AP at the moment, but do have a need for urgent travel. hope this clarifies and appreciate your help
