@Adebayo Oke some people wait 10 or 12 years for an interview. So 5 years not so bad. Have you considered filing mandamus?

Sue them. what many people don't know is that with a pending asylum case, you can't buy a home, unless you buy the full amount upfront (no bank is going to loan you that much money when you still have a foot out). So, if you want stability and live without always wondering if ICE would pick you up at any time (pending asylum is not a status), or when your life will no longer be in limbo, then get with a good immigration attorney who will sue USCIS in your behalf and therefore accelerate the case. 5 years is too long.

@Lilo Pelekai that's not true, my asylum application is still pending and I bought a house just 2 years after applying for asylum. It really depends on your income. What the banks need is your employment verification and proof of steady income, then they will grant you loan to buy a house. They won't ask for your immigration status. @Adebayo Oke live your life to the fullest and pray for the best outcome on your asylum.

@kdj A you said it: "3 years ago". Things change. I have an income that would allow me to get a house with no issue and a very good credit score. I couldn't get a loan on my own. So, just because you did a few years back doesn't mean it's still true today. "live your life to the fullest and pray for the best". That's your advice? Gambling your life away? Well, good luck with that. @Adebayo Oke , get with a licensed immigration lawyer and sue USCIS. If you have a strong and undeniable case, you'll get relief within a year. (that's including updating your case if anything has changed since you submitted your original documents 5 years ago, and the suit. From the moment USCIS is served with your suit, they have 120 days to act.) If money is an issue, many firms offer payment plans and will work with you on that, too. Don't gamble your life away. You also have to think of the current atmosphere. The current administration doesn't like immigrants and it's trying to stop even legal immigration. They're working on it. Would you not want to get relief before they make changes to the current immigration system and make it worse than it already is? You have bigger stakes here, not those who tell you to just pray.

@Lilo Pelekai You act as if you know all the immigration rules and the fact that you couldn't get a loan to buy a house doesn't mean that's what happens to everyone. If you can't get a loan from a bank, you can go to another. It's not that difficult. I have a lot of friends and colleagues on pending asylum who recently mortgage a house. So I know what I'm talking about.

@Adebayo Oke If you sue them like some suggested and you got interviewed as soon as possible and your affirmative asylum got denied, you may be subjected to removal or deportation proceedings and sent to immigration court where the judge determines your fate. So which one is worse, continue to wait or be on removal proceeding? Why not relax, continue to live your life, get prepared for your interview for whenever God says it's right. I believe God's time is the best and it will all end in praise.

@kdj A personal attacks only means you know nothing. Only empty barrels make noises. But thank you for your input. I'm not here to argue with anyone. I share my knowledge with those open to listen. I wish I had someone who would, but now I can be that person to others, those willing and open to listen. If that's not you, the smart thing to do is to ignore. Most people here need help with their immigration. Just telling them to pray because you got lucky is reckless. Prayer with no action is wishful thinking. I said what I said. @Adebayo Oke is free to listen to who they want and make the best decision for themselves. This is not a competition. I'm available to those who want help, and I will help them the best of my knowledge, with sound and factual information. It is rare, nowadays.
