@TM🥰 MC I see it this way, always be over prepared rather then trying to get it and delays your case. I would strongly think they would need proof of full custody. Do you have something from your court system or lawyer?

@Kingsley B no we never went through court when he left he never bothered about taking child or fighting me for the child but all he do is take care of him so I didn’t bother go about court with him he do agreed for the child to travel he don’t have a problem he even help with the process

@TM🥰 MC Even if the stepfather is the one asking for the child, you can go with the child only to the appointment or you, the stepfather and the child, but you do not need permission for that, only the original documents provided to the State Department when the 6 steps were completed. The biological father's permission is only needed for when the child is going to travel (that is, when he/she is going to leave his/her country for the first time). After the child has residency, he/she does not need it anymore.

@Lee peralta I had 3 people complete my documents n Dey all made a mess we started this journey in April 2024 in May 2025 my sons got approved n transferred n in agust 2025 I seat n do up my documents all over myself by August 15 I was schedule biometrics same day of biometric I got schedule for interview

@TM🥰 MC my kids are IR2 too, they were Approved on July 2024 and 6 step completed on august but not appointment yet 🤦🏽‍♀️

@TM🥰 MC I wish you the best with the process. Sorry to read that your documents where not done well. It is difficult to navigate on your own. If your ex will do a letter for you, I think that is not a bad idea. I am on the side of precaution. For example, my husband is a lawyer. When he prepares for trial, he always has more then he needs because different judges want to see different things. So one officer might want something the other does not.
