ssn
Hello everyone, on Tuesday I received my green card but they did not send me my SSN.
My question is whether I should keep waiting for uscis to send me the ssn or do I have to process it?

did you say βyesβ to the question for the SSN while filling I765 form as far as I remember there is no question that talks about new/replacement of ssn in I485 form . I am in similar same situation.
Will thomasDec 10, 2021
@Sa Ahqm, I said yes in the form I765
Sa AhqmDec 10, 2021
@will thomas. okay then I think you will get it soon.
did you get any update on ead case number?
they approved my GC directly, no updates on my EAD. So I am wondering do I need to contact them or not?
Will thomasDec 10, 2021
@Sa Ahqm, the same with me, they approved my GC directly and no updates on my EAD
Sa AhqmDec 10, 2021
yeah not sure what will happen. Our local SSN office is still not accepting any appointments or walkins. they are accepting ssn application via mail.
Sa AhqmDec 10, 2021
is there a way to check with them ?
Will thomasDec 10, 2021
It's funny because they made me an appointment for December 29th.
And today I called to see if I could do it via mail and they said that it could not because it will be my first time that I am applying for an SSN and it needs to be in person π
If I did it via mail it would be faster than waiting for an appointment lol
Will thomasDec 10, 2021
Then I called the general ssn number and they told me that I have to apply myself for ssn and I could do it via mail
Sa AhqmDec 10, 2021
did they check your details in their system or they just gave a generic answer and asked you to apply via mail? what do you think
Sa AhqmDec 10, 2021
okay. I guess I will have to apply via mail. I was planning to send it tomorrow.
Will thomasDec 10, 2021
she didn't even bother to check the system.
I explained that I wanted to know if uscis had applied for my ssn or did I have to do it?
Her answer was that I had to do it and that I do it via mail

I received EAD on Nov 24th, waited more than 7 days, called ssn and made an appointment on dec 10th, there was nothing in the system about having applied for an ssn, if there was something, they could give u the # but nothing was there! So I applied at the ssn field office on same day dec 10th (you have to fill in a form that they send u by text msg when u make appointment) as all I need is the # to complete my job application. You need to take your ead and passport with you. They told me to call on Monday to the field office to see if the # was available so that I can go get it in person and just wait approx. 2 weeks to get it by mail (original piece of paper with ssn). The ssn will eventually arrive without having to apply for it but It would take up to 2 months and I needed it now!! Hopefully this info helps you. Advice: make appointment to get it faster.
