Self petition - Template
Hi everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. I am about to apply for VAWA and am seeking some guidance on the self-petition process. Could anyone kindly share a sample self-petition or any resources/templates that could help me get started? I would greatly appreciate any advice or examples from those who have gone through this process.
Thank you so much for your support!

With the way everything is going these days, I would advise you get a good attorney because you sound novice (I don’t mean any disrespect). If you can’t afford an attorney, you can search for organizations that help vawa applicants in your area. Here is the thing with vawa, there’s no template as all cases are unique but for a case to qualify as vawa, you have to prove bonafide marriage, show you have suffered abuse (could be physical, emotional, financial and so on), prove that you are of good moral character . Search for list of documents to support these points, (you will find a bunch of things to show). Although, you don’t have to have everything but the more documents you have to prove bonafide marriage and abuse, the better for your case. After getting all these documents, you will write a personal statement that describes how the relationship started and went from lovey dovey to abuse. If you can show dates of event in your statement. that will be helpful too. PS: I’m not a legal representative, just a victim like you, all what I stated is based on my experience on this journey and some other’s that have read on different platforms. I wish you well on this journey, it can be tough but brace yourself up and research a lot and ask questions. You will be fine at the end of the day. Cheers

@F A Thank you so much for your detailed response and advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and insights.
I wanted to let you know that I have already hired an attorney, but I'm still very worried and want to make sure I give my case the best possible chance. I have gathered all the necessary evidence, including police reports and medical reports. My attorney has provided me with a sample statement, but I feel that it might not be sufficient.
I'm trying to do some research on my own to find effective ways to explain my situation to USCIS so that they understand it better. If you have any suggestions on how to structure the personal statement or any patterns that worked well in your case, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you again for your support and encouragement. It's reassuring to know that there are people like you willing to help others on this difficult journey.

my case was recently approved. in my statement I explained EVERYTHING from the time I met my ex husband, the marriage, and when the physical abused started. explain as much as you can, give detailed report of the abuse you suffered and who all witness. I was able to get witness testimony from people who saw the abuse with their own eyes. get your police reports, if you have abuse pictures print those out and submit with your package. if you had to go to therapy because of the trauma you suffered get a report from your therapist as well. submit very thing you can, once you have a strong case your application will be approved.

@rafeeq Hasan you are welcome. I also agree with what @sweet lins shared. In my personal statement, I started by introducing myself, then where and how I met my ex, when we started dating, got engaged and married. I followed that by when I moved in after wedding and our cohabitation started. After this, I started explaining the series of abuse I went through, I showed some pictures and therapy report. Just make sure you pour emotions into your statement such that anyone who reads it can feel your pain. Remember vawa approval is subject to what your present in terms of document and your personal statement which gives them an idea of your experience. Feel free to ask questions on the platform, we have amazing people here that are quick to share any idea they have.

if you have other road take it, because this process is too much, if I knew from the beginning that I would need 4-5 years I would had return to my country.
