In my case, I didn’t have to show a work permit. I only brought the judge’s order granting me asylum, my I-94, my previous Social Security card, and my driver’s license. I applied for the updated card, and it took only 7 days to arrive. The new card no longer says “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” I’m just sharing my experience in case it helps you, although every case can be a little different.

I think shouldn’t be scared or worried. You have a solid status and all the documents. EAD is helpful but not mandatory as your asylum grants you work authorization.

@Marvin Mejia what happened was I think they cannot find something about me, seems like to be i94 did not come up in the system, and I have a tear off i94 on my application because I’m a derivative, there’s no date stated. what scared me is when the staff asked me when did I came to the U.S. and things like what visa I used for enter, I was minor (under 18) and I had absolutely no idea what happened even until now…

Don't worry it's part of the process. in my case I went there to remove the restrictions of our old cards and they approved my wife's new card real quick like 5-7 days and I got a letter that they have to verify my application because it show an alert or something like that. Honestly I got scared but everything was fine. after a couple weeks I went back to the office after the investigation was clear and they gave me the paper with processing confirmation. then 5 days later approx I got the new card in the mail *** I am the principal applicant on the asylum and my wife is a derivative ***

that’s pretty normal. I went in Sep 2025 and they even asked my mom’s last name before marriage.

u should be good, just know people in those offices barely know shit about immigration status so u have to explain. also the valid from and until it should have a date from when u were granted but no a expiration bc asylum doesn’t expire

@aki rin Since your I-94 isn’t coming up in the system, I would ask the Social Security employee if they can request Additional Verification through SAVE instead of stopping the application. Bring your asylum approval documents, your derivative asylum documentation, I-94, passport/ID, and previous Social Security card. Sometimes SAVE needs an additional verification when the immigration record doesn’t appear automatically. You can also ask for your SAVE case number so you can check the status through SAVE CaseCheck.

@Marvin Mejia I think they are doing the SAVE check now, they left me with a letter of acknowledgement saying that they are trying to verify the authenticity of my document
