RFE for I-130
Any Nigerian (anyone) received RFE for previous marriage certificate?
I have a customary court divorce decree from Nigeria. USCIS is asking for previous marriage certificate on my form I-130.
Customary court generally (In Nigeria) do not issue marriage certificate which USCIS recognizes in the reciprocity schedule.
Lawyer says he would draft an affidavit, show pictures of the previous traditional marriage and quote the reciprocity schedule on USCIS website.
Any experience or advise would be greatly appreciated.

@My Rock only HIGH COURT can issue a divorce decree according to the laws of the land and recognized by USCIS
Please don't complicate your case further as you can get marriage certificate from Marriage Registry depending on location/state

Your lawyer is right; I had a customary divorce and didn't provide a previous marriage certificate, and it was approved last year without an interview. That officer doesn't know their job.

something tells me that the officer reviewing my case wants to set me up. The law is clear on customary marriages in Nigeria or prolly he wants to establish the date of my previous marriage because there was a date error on the decree we submitted during my initial filing. I had to swear an affidavit with the customary court and applied for a new one with the court in Nigeria. I took the corrected copy with me to the interview.

hi @favor me @My Rock I’m in the same dilemma. I am about to submit my documents which includes my customary divorce decree? any advise ? how did you handle this issue @My Rock could it be the dates that caused the problem?
