refugee travel documents
I-131 US RTD , this is one of the worst nightmare documents ever issue by any respected country. do not travel with this documents , it is a Hassel everywhere you go. it tooks 2 years to be issue and it is valid for one year! the most weird thing on life. all countries require 6 months availability in any documents , since you got this funny documents you need to rush for visa and tickets and planning trip, as you have no time to do it without losing your calm! I wonder if US accepted refugee and did background check, why they make it for 1 year! this is ridiculous plus no embassy accept this micky mouse travel documents and borders officers all around the world , looks at you as a scammer. DO NOT USE IT , IT IS USELESS AND WORTHLESS!

where are you from? At the airport they can check with CPB to make sure it's real. You're lucky USCIS aprouved it must of the time they don't aprouve it.
Immigration GuyMay 31, 2024
what country were you trying to go/get a visa for? very interesting! fyi they can't issue longer than 1 year because it's an international agreement, all the countries issue it for only 1 year. if you got the GC you can get re-entry permit which is for 2 years (still need a visa)
ku alMay 31, 2024
reply @Immigration Guy you are mistaken my friend , all European refugee travel document validity are 5 years and Canada 2 years only USA is one year! also to issue RTD in Europe it will take 40 day. to issue it in Canada you need 2 months. to issue it in USA , you need minimum 17 months to 2 years and a half!!!!!!! if you have GC you do not need re-entry permit! except if you are staying more than 6 months over seas by the way, the Hassel start from airline employee at counter when they issue the boarding, no one knows what is it! so no one risk to issue boarding pass. in case you got lucky and airlines employee issue boarding pass, second headache start at destination officer boarders for all countries except Germany. so Germany is the only country in the world knows what is the USA RTD . my advice do not try to travel to: spain portugal italy morroco Egypt dubai saudi turkey France italy Asia Africa Latin America Antarctica Australia note: most of refugees or asylum has no national passport , so they use only RTD for there travel.

wow thanks for the info @ku al , I didn't know about Canada and EU. yeah it absolutely sucks. I'm about to fly to Europe in a month but won't go to the places you specified although I've met a couple of people that went to Turkey with it. no idea about the rest. i've reached out to the consulates of few countries I'm thinking of visiting so that I have that email as a proof before traveling hoping that it speeds up my clarification process. funny you said that about checkin counter. a friend with RTD told me today the issues she had with an airline -_- terrible. when you say you do not need re-entry permit so what are you suggesting? stick to RTD?
ku alMay 31, 2024
if you have a GC , you do not need re entry permit, except if you plan to stay more than 6 months. RTD only needed when you do not have any passport. GC is enough to enter USA
Immigration GuyMay 31, 2024
but gc is not a travel document so you need a passport or reentry permit or RTD in addition to the GC
Immigration GuyMay 31, 2024
if I enter to Germany how would they know if I drive to another country that requires visa? šŸ˜… @ku al there's no hard border between them
ku alMay 31, 2024
yes they will not. bit again , you have to book to Germany and then you leave to your destination, which is a Hassel Germany flight is not the cheapest too life is easier then that
ku alMay 31, 2024
do not think Germany border officer will not give you that daaa looks, he will keep scratching his head for 15 minutes. before he go to his boss and approve it
ku alMay 31, 2024
I am not negative, but I am saying facts.
Immigration GuyMay 31, 2024
no I totally hear you. by the way did you apply right away for renewal? can I apply for a renewal right after I get this? @ku al
ku alMay 31, 2024
I didn't try that, but it is good way of thinking

@ku al my greencard was from asylum, my original country passport will expired on October 2027. So that mean I couldn’t use it anymore since April 2027 since many country required visitor to have at least 6 months passport validity. The problem is, I can’t extend my passport from my origin country anymore, because if I go to embassy to extend my passport, they will know that I have greencard because I have some other countries immigration stamp on the passport, and they required their nationality to show them our greencard (sounds crazy but it is what it is), if I show them the greencard then they will know my category is AS6. And they will revoked my passport effective immediately. I’m eligible to apply N400 naturalization on January 2028, that’s why I’m thinking to apply for RTD just to cover my ā€œpassport-lessā€ for about a year. I don’t really have a plan to travel with RTD, just in case if I need it. I don’t really have another option.

@ku al hi i just got my asylum green card and RTD last month my question is is it ok if i travel overseas for two months to a country like Turkey or London? Thank you
ku alJun 1, 2024
@Babi- v less than 6 months is OK I guess you are Syrian so get visa before you leave on the micky mouse documents. do not do lay over (escal) in any Arab country. best way to use Lufthansa. God help you meeting the Turkish silly officers at Istanbul airport
Babi- vJun 2, 2024
@ku al thank you so much bro you're so helpful
Alex BJun 2, 2024
@ku al Before covid19 and south border invasion rtd was being processed within 2 weeks.
ku alJun 2, 2024
Alex B the question even if it is takes17 months or 2 days to issue, why the validity for 1 year only doesn't make sense!! so the real validity for a 1 year travel document is first 6 months only, as most countries need 6 months validity to allow you enter!
Alex BJun 3, 2024
@ku al it's based on how many international trips per year an ordinary person will do. And it's more than likely it is 1 trip. based on that, 1 year validity is sufficient. But I agree, 2 years is better. Matter of fact, I seen few RTD issued for 2 years posted in forums

Yes, it is a long way to obtain in, go overseas and be stressed if they gonna let you in but it was definitely worth it for me. I haven’t seen my parents in 10 years. I’ve got this RTD and went to Europe and reunited after a decade with them, so for me it was the best decision ever. And I will renew it again and again until I won’t have to, just to be able to see my family again.
russ kJun 4, 2024
hey @Alex B for GC holder rtd issued for 2 years?
Alex BJun 4, 2024
@russ k it is 1 year, but due to backlog and processing time, they started issue 2 years. I personally only saw few of them posted online.
russ kJun 4, 2024
@Alex B google was saying that for gc it for 2 years🤷. My GC was recently was approved and rtd still pending so was wondering if it would be 1 or 2 years and should i do any actions to change it for 2 years
Alex BJun 5, 2024
@russ k it is unclear how they decide if you will get 1 or 2 years. but since decision is not made yet , you can try send them letter and ask for a courtesy extension
ku alJun 5, 2024
