you can get a driver's license or temp ID but I think you only get a real ID if your permanent resident or citizen

California here- real id is obtainable with valid EAD card, approval notice of EAD, and social. its expires the same day your EAD expires.

Take the approval and ssn card to the motor vehicle. They have your details in their system already. You as well just wait for the physical card.

No, they ask, but you can say, "I don't have a Green Card." They need your EAD, passport, and two proofs of home address. I just did my Real ID.

Some states may have different requirements, so it looks like not all states issue a Real ID with only an approved EAD. I am from Kentucky I scheduled appointment for changing regular driver's license to real ID but they clearly said that I am not eligible for getting real ID😞

in Pennsylvania, I got my real ID with EAD and SSN, but I had to wait for the confirmation letter from immigration office to issue a real ID. it took 2 weeks then I got my real ID for 5 years.

From what I learned the real ID has a star in the top right corner (ID/drivers license). You can obtain a temp ID/drivers license but for the Real ID I think you need to have your GC. Maybe I'm wrong but I have a DMV appointment to update my Driver's license to a Real ID soon, I'll ask questions and report. Good luck and all the best to everyone.
