PhD Computer Science with US EAD
I am in US, i140 approved. Currently in AOS. I have my EAD for two years.
I have a PhD in computer science with a thesis in machine learning. I've sent already several hundreds of applications to several remote and nearby hybrid jobs. However, I haven't received any call for an interview, only the first call. Once they know I am not a permanent resident yet, they are not interested in me anymore.
Do you think the problem is that I don't have the green card yet, or there are no positions for someone with my qualifications in the remote/hybrid market?

There is no problem its just that another applicant might have a better background or the employer just wants you to work in person

Sorry to hear about this. Truth is the job market is really tough right especially for remote and hybrid roles.Roles are going to people with lots of experience because there's been so many recent layoffs in tech. Try applying for only in person positions in your local area if you can.

@Al ux in the same boat with an approved i140, EAD and a PhD. it has nothing to do with the fact that you are not yet a permanent resident. If anything, not needing sponsorship should boost your chances when the job market is good. The reason is the crazy job market we are in now. I am also actively looking. Goodluck with your search. You got this!!!

My advice, have a specific resume designed for specific roles when applying. Some role might need you to remove the PhD others might not. Also, you start with entry level position, work experience in the US is very vital to landing more opportunities or positions.
