The biometrics do not seem to be getting waived anymore. Within a week of your application being submitted you will get a biometrics appointment date which is around 2 -3 weeks later. This part is quick, unfortunately it slows down after that. I submitted my application Dec 29 2025 and my biometrics appointment came through on Jan 3rd for jan 20th- still waiting for the interview date. I wish you all the best

is it possible to request rescheduling the biometrics if i was outside the country? also would that affect my interview timeline?

It is possible to reschedule the biometrics appointment by calling the number given on your appointment letter. This can be obtained via your online account with USCIS and then they send the original letter in the post to take to the appointment with you. However this change must be made in good time before the appointment date and a good reason for establishing the change needs to be made. Depending on how long you plan to be gone for then yes it will affect your interview timeline. is it possible for you to hold off submitting your application until after you are back?

It is possible to reschedule the biometrics but I advise you not to. I rescheduled mine (interview) and went through with my trip (out of the country) only to be given another date which was not even close to my return date, had to reschedule my return flight and come back early. so I would advise you if scheduled just finish the biometric before going for your trip.

Biometrics can still be reused in some N-400 cases, so it is not guaranteed that you’ll be called in, but you should plan as if you might get an appointment. USCIS says naturalization applicants generally get biometrics if needed. For timing, biometrics often shows up fairly soon after filing, but exact Minneapolis timing can vary a lot. If your travel is around the same time you want to file, the safer move is to expect some early case activity and avoid booking around a guessed biometric date. Older timelines you see with no biometrics are often cases where USCIS reused prior records instead of scheduling a new appointment.
