N-400 Atlanta
I filed my N-400 7 months ago and there has been no movement since. I’ve called USCIS twice, but they just told me to wait. I haven’t seen anyone in groups, forums, or among my friends who has been waiting longer than I have in Atlanta. But I constantly see people who filed months after me, and they’ve either been scheduled for an interview or completed the whole process. What can I do about this? Is there any way to expedite my case?

reach out to your state senator to request an update on your case
V
Valeria MJan 16, 2025
@nero l I wrote to my congressman yesterday but haven’t received a response yet.
V
Valeria MJan 16, 2025
@bubu bubu 80% of cases are completed within 7.5 months in Atlanta, so I’m definitely past that 80% already, but I can submit an e-request only in 85 days.
nero lJan 17, 2025
@Valeria M it’s unlikely that you will hear from your state representative, however they tend to push uscis to prioritize. if your request date for uscis is not present yet, unfortunately they won’t take any request in account until that date because that would put you in normal processing time.
nero lJan 17, 2025
@Valeria M if you haven’t received any updates on your case since your submission I would definitely contact your state senator. not sure how true, but they got a few more strings to pull than congressman. i believe they have a form on their website where you can submit your information about your case with uscis.
Tony Jan 17, 2025
hey Valeria, mine was 9months before I was scheduled for interview Houston Texas. I submitted my application April 8 2024 and I just got my interview scheduled for February 2025. just be patient with the process
John SmithJan 17, 2025
@Valeria M im on the same boat and I haven’t heard anything since they told me NBC requested my interview… I checked online and can only submit an inquiry next month… its been 7.5 months too for myself when the office says 80% are processed in 7 months… there are just numbers and Uscis bullshit people constantly unfortunately
V
Valeria MJan 18, 2025
@nero l Thank you! Yes, I found this form on the senator’s website. I think I’ll try submitting it. If I don’t receive any response, I’ll try again when it’s time for the request. I received an update the day after I submitted the form, stating that they used my previous fingerprints. After that, there haven’t been any updates for 7 months.
V
Valeria MJan 18, 2025
@John Smith It’s unfair because we all pay the same fees, and USCIS employees are paid directly from these forms. There should be a queue, but it’s clearly not being followed. It seems like they personally choose the people they want to prioritize while leaving others behind for some reason. I’ve probably seen over a hundred cases in Atlanta filed around the same time as mine or even much later than mine. Not a single person has waited more than seven months to have their interview scheduled. My case is completely straightforward, with nothing that could cause a delay.

@Tony Thank you for sharing your timeline.
John SmithJan 18, 2025
@Valeria M I totally agree with you. I provided all the same documents I provided since the 485… just more recent every time….. I was approved in less than 6 months in 2021 and approved on the spot… I barely sat down at the interview and the agent told me not to worry, I was approved even before starting the interview…. and now this …. almost two years for the 751 and going to the 8th month for my N400…. it’s ridiculous
V
Valeria MJan 19, 2025
@John Smith You’re lucky with the 485. I waited a little over 13 months and was also approved on the spot within a couple of minutes. It’s obvious that there’s nothing unusual about our cases that could have caused such a delay. Since the N400 is filed online, it’s impossible for them to accidentally overlook or fail to notice it. Their system surely allows them to sort and track cases by filing dates, so they absolutely know which cases have been waiting too long. They’re just intentionally choosing not to process ours.
V
Valeria MJan 19, 2025
@B Akin Well, maybe that’s true.
John SmithJan 19, 2025
@Valeria M yes, agree! NBC processed my N400 in the normal time. I found some info and it says usually NBC takes 3-6 months, and my FO, 4-8 months…. NBC took 3 months for me… I’ve been waiting since October for the interview… I’m hoping it won’t be too long on the FO side…
V
Valeria MJan 19, 2025
@John Smith How did you find the information about how long NBC took? Where can I check that?
John SmithJan 20, 2025
@Valeria M I used ChatGPT :)
V
Valeria MJan 20, 2025
@John Smith I mean specifically your case. How did you find out when it was transferred to the local office?
John SmithJan 20, 2025
@Valeria M I was looking at the updates on my case through the public APIs USCIS has and I noticed a simultaneous update on both my casss (751 and N400). I called them and they said the NBC requested an interview that day.
A GJan 22, 2025
You called them over phone or talked to live agent via Emma?
V
Valeria MJan 22, 2025
@John Smith I just called USCIS and finally got through to a helpful person who agreed that my case has been taking longer than it should. He told me that my case was transferred from the NBC to Atlanta and a request to schedule my interview was made on July 11, 2024. He also submitted a request to USCIS, asking them to either schedule the interview or provide an explanation for the delay. He said I should receive a response via email within 30 days.
V
Valeria MJan 22, 2025
@A G Yes, I called twice before, and both times I was told nothing except to wait, and that there was nothing they could do. Today, I called for the third time and finally got through to someone helpful who agreed that my case has been taking longer than usual. He submitted a USCIS request. I had asked the previous representatives if they could submit a request for me to get an explanation about what’s going on, but both times they said they couldn’t. However, this person today did it.
John SmithJan 22, 2025
@Valeria M Good to know! I would be able to make an inquiry in 2 weeks too! I feel like nothing will move until then
V
Valeria MJan 22, 2025
@John Smith My inquiry date is actually in April. You might want to try calling USCIS and see if you can get someone who can help you submit it earlier.
John SmithJan 22, 2025
@Valeria M mmm I wonder if they’ll make your application move. hopefully!! I’ll try tomorrow.
John SmithJan 24, 2025
@Valeria M I also made an inquiry today. we’ll see how it goes. I got an email saying it can take up to 60 days to be processed, so by then I’ll definitely be above the processing times….
V
Valeria MJan 24, 2025
@John Smith In the email, it also says 60 days, but over the phone, he told me within 30 days, usually in 2-3 weeks. So hopefully, we’ll get a response sooner.
V
Valeria MFeb 19, 2025
@John Smith any updates?
John SmithFeb 19, 2025
@Valeria M yes! got the interview notice last week for next month! they didn’t respond to my inquiry but I have been scheduled for the combo interview 😁
V

@John Smith Oh, great news, congratulations! I still haven’t been scheduled, and they still haven’t responded to my inquiry 😕
John SmithFeb 19, 2025
@Valeria M sorry to hear this… hopefully you’ll be in the next batch of interviews
John SmithFeb 19, 2025
@Valeria M thanks! I can’t wait to be done with it

karina .Feb 21, 2025
hey Valeria I’m in Atl and going to apply soon ! have u had any update?
V
Valeria MFeb 21, 2025
@John Smith I called USCIS yesterday and asked if I understood correctly that NBC handles all background checks, and once the case is transferred to the local office, all they need to do is click “Confirm Interview.” They said yes, that’s correct. So, if your case was transferred to the local office a while ago, the officer who will be conducting your interview is the one causing the delay I think.
V
Valeria MFeb 21, 2025
@karina . Hello 👋🏻 No updates since June 19. But most likely, you’ll have better luck.
John SmithMar 10, 2025
@Valeria M you finally got your interview date?
V
Valeria MMar 11, 2025
@John Smith yes! sorry, forgot to update. The interview is scheduled for April. I think the senator helped, and also, after they scheduled it, I received a response to my inquiry 😆stating that the interview had been scheduled.
John SmithMar 11, 2025
@Valeria M lol same here. got scheduled on Feb 6th for next week. I received the email last week about my inquiry 😂
V
Valeria MMar 11, 2025
@John Smith They scheduled me for 7 AM. I didn’t even know they opened that early. It feels like this was done on purpose too.
John SmithMar 12, 2025
@Valeria M a friend of mine got his interview in California at 6:30am years ago so not uncommon. Not sure what their work schedule is
V
Valeria MMar 16, 2025
