My Experience traveling with Advance Parole
Just a little background of my case, my vawa was approved February 2024, got 1st rfe for medical and birth certificate, 2nd rfe for I-864w. I also got NOID which I have responded to. Unfortunately I lost my father and burial was going to take place end of November. I was a bit scared from all what people have been saying about not to travel but I knew nothing in this world would hold me back from been at my father’s funeral, he gave me all the love, care, attention till he took his final breath. I travelled home(Nigeria) and came back on Monday through JFK. The officer that inspected me was very nice, he told me because of my AP, I will go through a second inspection. He said all is okay but they just have to do it. He took me to the room and told me to have a seat. There were quite a number of people in the room also waiting with few officers attending to us ( maybe because it was late, around 7:30pm EST). When it got to my turn, the officer just called my name and handed over my passport and AP. No question was asked, absolutely nothing. The whole process was seamless. I’m encouraging you to travel if you want to. most especially if it’s for something significant like what I went for, in my case, my father’s burial cannot be done twice, after burial is remembrance which is quite different. If you feel you might be in deportation proceeding, call the number they have online, you only need your alien number to be sure. once that is cleared, and you know you don’t have any criminal record, I want to believe you are good to go. And please let’s stop instigating fears in people, if you don’t have the experience, don’t share it like it happened to you. sometimes people cook up stories just to scare others and when it comes to time and events, not all can be replaced when it’s lost. I pray God sees us through our immigration journey and make our settlement quick so our heart doesn’t get weak and frail from too much stress.

@F A well said. I’m sorry for your loss. People just come on here and post things they have no knowledge of and it bits my imagination if it’s stupid or God knows what.

from January I believe it won’t be that much easy but rest of depends on situation
F ADec 4, 2024
@Robert Yo thank you, I’m glad to share @Missy May Thank you and I’m glad to be back “HOME” @chris rod please speak with an immigration attorney, they will be able to give better information around all these you stated. But while I was waiting for my 2nd inspection, I overhead a guy has some charges and the officer asked about it, he gave them the details and documentation about it. If you eventually travel, make sure you have the details and documentation with you. @bridges 5 thank you. I can’t fathom that too, we are already going through a lot, the best we can do for ourselves is to share what we are sure of and not fabricate what we don’t know. @phani cheru thank you. I’m glad to share. we need all the positive energy to keep us going on this journey @Tee Em amen, thank you. you don’t want to know how glad I am to go on that trip, trust me, my father deserves more. he was exceptional, he embodied fatherhood like his life depends on it. I am 37years and my father never failed me for a day. Tell me why I won’t take all the risk to go lay him to rest? I’m sure he’ll be proud of me😀. I’m glad to be back “HOME” @tired from waitingg thank you, may God help us through this journey. I’m glad to be back @all is well let’s see how things go, I believe once they are still issuing advance parole then people should be able to travel.

i am sorry for your lost. did you overstayed before filed VAWA?
Tom BomDec 4, 2024
my condolences 🙏🏼🙏🏼 and welcome back, why you received noid?
F ADec 4, 2024
@hikmah anizia I didn’t overstay @Tom Bom my ex filed i130 and i485 for me previously. Both were denied and i130 was later reopened. For some reasons they referred to the denied i485. So I responded that the new i485 is based on my i360

@F A Accept my condolences 💐 about your father. And yes traveling with AP is no issue at all and I followed you and @Missy May thread about using it that’s great. Even when I traveled to Canada with my 10 years green card I got via VAWA twice I still go into secondary inspection because they couldn’t read it directly on their upfront computer and secondary inspection ain’t nothing to be scared about at all. Once you have that VALID AP or documents you’re free as bird to come in. I will be traveling next two weeks as a Citizen now. I pray God make it all easy for us all ♥️💡

I was arrested when my wife called the cops on me, though, case was dismissed(no conviction), Vawa was approved last year and i485 pending. can I travel out of the country?
F ADec 5, 2024
@Ashraf Ahmed thank you. I’m glad to share @TJay . I believe you should be good. Just have the details of the case and go with any paper work you have about it

I was arrested when my wife called the cops on my as well and even tho she provided a affidavit to the DA stating she was lying they still prosecuted me. they gave me a plea deal that I was scared to refuse since I was facing up to 10years in prison. fast forward they reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. is that something I have to fear or will this affect me in the future ? @TJay

Roch MartDec 24, 2024
@F A sorry for your loss and thanks so much for sharing your story.
F ADec 24, 2024
@God did it yes . I flew from Lagos, had a layover in Côte d voire and landed in JFK. All through, the airline officials asked for blue passports, green cards or visas. in my case, I showed them my passport and AP. They all seems to know about it because they didn’t ask me any question. The moment I presented it to the officer at jfk, he said because I have AP, I will go for a secondary inspection but it’s not a big deal, that they do it just to make sure everything is ok. During the secondary inspection, they didn’t ask me anything because the first officer that checked my documents took it into the secondary room and dropped it with another officer who later checked his system and gave me back my documents

@Roch Mart thank you

@FA, thank you for your reply but am asking about the immigration in Nigeria do they know about AP? Since some countries only recognises VISAS and GC or PASSPORT. I just want to Know if you were asked a VISA or GC before boarding back to the US. I really want to play safe .Thank you.
