K1 & K2 Visa for Somali Fiance and Children
Hello everyone, I'm looking for some data points regarding k1 and k3 visa for Somali fiance and children. Department of State says that somali passport are not accepted. Does this mean we don't need to get passport for Fiance and his children? Does anyone know how the medical appointment will work if they can't use their Passport? Any help would be helpful as we get prepared for the interview.

If the fiancé is abroad, they need to apply for the K-1. If their children are abroad, it’s the K-2. You need a passport to enter the US.

@Jessica V https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Somalia.html states that a somali passport is not valid. I'm wondering if there are any people out there who came out of somalia and what they used. here is the quote from department of state: The Department has determined that Somali passports are not valid for visa-issuance purposes. Most immigrant visa beneficiaries will not be required to present a passport under the various subsections of 22 CFR 42.2 and will be issued visas using Form DS-232 per 9 FAM 9 FAM 504.10-3(B)(2). Diversity visas for Somalis may require individual passport waivers per 22 CFR 42.2(g) and will be issued using Form DS-232 per 9 FAM 9 FAM 504.10-3(B)(2). Somali nonimmigrant visa beneficiaries, including K1 visa recipients, will also require a passport waiver per guidance in 9 FAM 9 FAM 403.9-6(B).
