J-supplement while I-485 & I-131 is pending
Hi everyone, PD Date: July 5, 2022, CRP since November 2023. If our employers complete the required sections, can we independently fill out and submit the i-485 J supplement form without the assistance of a lawyer? Also, do we have to wait for the form to be accepted, or can we begin working with new employers immediately after submitting I-485? Can anyone please share their experience? Thank you

You don't have to wait until the I-485 is accepted to start working.

if your 485 is pending for more than 180 days you can switch employers , you dont have to file 485j , if any rfe or called for interview you can show it to them.

@Sri N @Surya Rai. I am about to move different state, will that be an issue? Because USCIS are aware about my new address (different state & different city), do I have to submit I-485 j first or I can take it with me if they schedule my interview. Thank you in advance.

@Sri N Are you sure we don’t need to file 485 j supplement? Then what’s the purpose of j-supplement?

application for AOS needs to be pending for at least 180 days and an approved i-140 for mkre than 180 days so that your current employer cannot withdraw the petition. only then can you file rhe supplemental form 485-j and the job description needs to be similar to the one your employer sponsored you for. i would ask for an attourney to make sure the new job complies with the similarities required. otherwise it is a big risk.
