your interview asylums office or immigration court

My attorney sent Paperwork for Vawa on 14th April 2025 and Uscis received on 17th April 2025. I haven’t received my Receipt Notice yet.

My interview is with Asylum Office.

I’m my opinion it’s better to contact a lawyer and explain the situation, because you already have an interview scheduled

when did you file for asylum? since you don’t meet the requirements for asylum, they’re just gonna deny your claim and transfer it over to the immigration court. please speak to your attorney.

I filed it in July 2024 after filing for divorce with my wife because she was keep telling me she will report me to immigration if I don’t listen to her.

I’m sorry to hear that. did you file asylum on your own? because I’m curious what lawyer would advise to file asylum in this scenario given the circumstances. withdrawing your asylum case would be the your best bet, but I’m not sure if it’s possible at this point since you already have an interview scheduled.

No I didn’t filed asylum by myself lawyer did, but the lawyer I hired he is piece of s**t, I called him when I got the Interview notification and he told me go it’ll be 5-10 minutes interview. He even charged me for my EAD and still didn’t filed it so I’ve to file by myself online watching YT videos.

I filed asylum before filing for Vawa, because 1-2 lawyers told me you can’t file Vawa after filing for divorce and you need Police Complaint, but after filing for asylum I find out, I can file Vawa within 2 years of divorce. So I filed for Vawa. And now this Asylum Interview is on the head and I’m panicking

when is your interview? because I know lawyers are expensive but I feel like you need one theirs this lawyer that specializes in vawa cases it’s called lisinski law good luck

@G K front the sound of it, the lawyer who filled for asylum instead of vawa messed you up. you can attend the interview and explain the situation about how your lawyer screwed things up but now you have a new lawyer who filed for your vawa, let them know you wish to withdraw the asylum case since it was filed in error, then file a complaint with the law board against the first lawyer for misleading you and incompetence. ask your second lawyer if they can attend the asylum interview with you and can help explain the mess. best of luck.

I talked to my Vawa Lawyer and she said wait until you get the interview notice let see on which date is the interview then will see what we can do next

pleas go for your interview. make sure you have the documents for both filings. Also, if you have valid reasons for both filings, keep them at the tip of your fingers.

my opinion since asylum is something based on persecution u experience in your country you have to have valid proofs to succeed. if you not ready you can withdraw it or reschedule it, personally I know 2 people in the same situation. your lawyer has the best advice..good luck

I am thinking to withdraw the I-589 so I can persue the Vawa but waiting for receipt notice from USCIS for VAWA, Deos anyone know how long it takes to receive the receipt notice if you send your file to immigration lockbox
