International Travel with expired Green Card + 48-month Extension Letter
Hi everyone, I’m debating whether I should travel abroad with my expired green card and the extension letter. I know that, in theory, it should be fine to re-enter the U.S., but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done it recently. I’ve also heard that there can sometimes be issues when checking in for the return flight. I’m thinking about going to Thailand for two weeks just for vacation, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the stress. Would appreciate any thoughts or experiences!

I wouldn't advise traveling abroad with an expired GC during this uncertain time. Consult with an attorney before making a decision.

Totally fine! Ive done it internationally x2 this year and re entering was zero stress level. Officer would just want to see the card and original extension letter

@Ky King that’s awesome! Did you have any problems checking in for your return flight? What countries did you go to?

No problems, also you can verify with airline prior to your trip to make sure they’re knowledgeable about the extension. I went to Africa and South America

You can travel without any problem if you don't have a criminal record. I have that extension and I've traveled 4 or 5 times without any problem outside the United States. They come into your room, the famous cualtico
