International travel while waiting for EAD renewal
Did anyone go outside US while you wait for EAD renewal? my visa is E2, and EAD category is a17. I saw someone’s blog who has a similar background to mine, and it says that she traveled outside US during the process of E2 EAD renewal but it was successfully renewed based on the latest I-94. I applied for renewal this July to california USCIS center but haven’t heard anything yet. Current status is “case was received” I didn’t know the expiration date of I94 affect on validation of EAD so I filed I94 that will expire on Oct 2022. Therefore I’m thinking, if it’s possible I’d like to update I-94 and have a longer validation on new EAD… I’d like to hear someone’s experience and commens on this! #ead #eadrenewal #travel #E2

you can travel with EAD renewal pending- not a problem. the length of I-94 also does not affect the EAD length

i-94 does affect EAD length for E2 visas. It is only valid the length of your i-94, I am also an E2 and always been linked to when you last left the country. I believe it is the i94 expiry when you file; for example my renewal I filed in March is due to expire January 2022 (have not received it yet!!) and I have already submitted for my renewal after that which will expire 2023. Hopefully I will be able to tell you for certain soon when my renewal finally arrives.

that’s strange- my first E2 EAD lasted longer than my I-94!

your first one is automatically 2 years - then every renewal is linked to the i94

Which means the last two years with travel restrictions, renewals are often not valid for very long!

Hi Emma, I'm the same category as yours, A17, CSC, filed in March. Did you get your EAD?

sorry for the late reply! Thank you guys for the comment. I talked to a lawyer and they told me that we can travel outside of US during the process. but looks like it depends on the person in charge whether or not they reflect the latest I-94 on new EAD.

I mean, my new ead may be issued on I-94 I filed even if I travel outside of US during the process

Yeah you’ll be completely fine, I have travelled twice while waiting for a renewal - since it is a different document to the visa makes no difference. No @happy scientist I am unfortunately still waiting for mine. All I have had is multiple failed expedite requests.
