i485 Interview (second time)
Today was my second interview and my first was in July. In the first interview, they only asked me questions related to i485. They called me for a second interview because they received instructions from head office that if the person still qualifies for Asylum, they have or not problem to go back to their country . they must go through the entire Asylum question again and as per officer this is mandatory for everyone in future to go through with this process. If anyone has an interview in the future, prepare yourself.Good luck

@jarmandeep Singh @Wise Man @aln li @G G How long they gonna take it doesn’t matter, just prepare yourself for everything that way you will be confident. i didn’t file WOM . I applied in Jan 2024 first interview was in July. everything was good , they didn’t approve as per officer it’s gonna take some days or weeks.i don’t know about every category it’s gonna effect but asylum for sure and as per officer administration adding stuff to make it harder for everyone.
Wise ManSep 9, 2026

did y had your lawyer present at the time of interview?

@A A, if this is truly a new policy, USCIS should have made an official announcement and notified the public. In my opinion, this may have more to do with your previous interview. They could have noticed some inconsistencies or issues in your case that led to this decision. USCIS doesn’t necessarily handle every case the same way—it can depend heavily on the individual circumstances of each case.

@A A What I know for sure is that they will review your asylum file and go through your previous interview with the officer who granted or approved your case. If the current officer finds anything that raises concerns or doesn’t seem consistent with your case, they may take additional steps to make sure you still meet the eligibility requirements.

Thanks for being the first to share this news with the community. Is this interview similar to your asylum interview, or is it simpler? This is very helpful.

@A A same thing happen with my friend in his interview like 2-3 years ago they asked him every asylum question in his interview so I think it’s just depend on the officer

The lawyer I had taken along had already informed me before the interview why I had been called back. He had learned from a USCIS officer that, under a new memo, it had become mandatory to ask everyone questions related to asylum. I shared my own experience and what I had heard from the lawyer and the USCIS officer.amd also my other friends had interviewe in July they told me in their interviews asked asylum related questions.Good luck

@A A While my green card application was pending, I traveled outside the U.S. twice using a valid Refugee Travel Document.
At my green card interview in August 2026, the officer told me I should have used Advance Parole and said my I-485 could possibly be considered abandoned because of the travel. My immigration attorney told me he does not believe this should be a valid reason to deny my case.
My I-485 is still pending.
