oh wow this going to be tricky honestly. why did she keep her ex’s name? but I guess if they have been divorced for a while then it shouldn’t matter but good luck

now this is very tricky.. why you guys scared and keeping marriage away from her relatives. or maybe they scared because she filed for her ex and now doing same for you. that your interview will be tough if they did ask reasons. solution 1., apply for a change of name at the dmv to change her lastname. 2., inform few relatives ya married incase uscis asked..3., make sure you don’t appear at your interview with her ex lastname(red flag). 4., be extra ready and prepared for other questions good luck

@Osher you have to address this issue with immediate effect, go to the dmv and apply for change of name with her, let her family know, it's very important.

I would go ahead and just change her driver’s license. and whenever you talk to the interviewer, I would mentioned that due to just recently changing her last name you didn’t have time to change everything on her name. The only tricky part about your case is just wanting her family to not know about you getting married, and this can be a red flag for them because they will ask if your family and her family know about you two being married.

thanks for the comments, we are really scared that they not going accept it and think I’m only using her for my papers that’s why we want to get the papers first and then marry again. with everyone that what we wanted to tell to the interviewer and honestly that’s the truth

@Osher, seems you dont understand the magnitude of problem you want to attract to yourself, pls kindly address those grey area’s with immediate effect, otherwise you could put yourself in a very big mess.

Heyy! don’t make it complicated for yourself. why would you be scared to be known to family members? if nothing suspicious and your marriage is real and not for immigration status, you gotta proof it first to family member before making way to uscis. don’t think uscis can’t use their advanced searches to find out info and not even her filed for her ex before. They have all these informations. if you scared of family situations and uscis called someone in each family to attest to marriage……… cover your behind man

Well, we can only advise and help figure out how uscis looks at each case. if your best decision is to keep your marriage low from parents and siblings knowing(more funnier) that’s not a problem! .. keep her ex lastname(the divorce might not be that long) and honestly explain to uscis all your reasons… NB: Uscis officer might not even see or ask about it but anyways…………….. GOODLUCK!

one of the questions on the intial green card paperwork asks if you have sponsored a spouse before and I guess in ur wife’s case it’s a yes so it will come up but I would not worry about relatives and made the necessary changes. Also, be sure to take a lot of pictures (not selfies) pics with grandparents/parents/nephews and nieces are good
