i485 approved for primary dependent pending
Hoping someone here can help clarify my situation. I filed for Adjustment of Status (I-485) in October 2024 under the employment-based category, where I am the primary applicant. Yesterday, my case status was updated to “Case Was Approved,” and I’m thrilled that my green card journey is finally coming to an end.
However, I’m a bit concerned because there has been no corresponding update on my spouse’s I-485 case. We filed our applications together, and I had assumed my spouse’s case would be approved around the same time as mine, but that hasn’t happened.
When I contacted a live USCIS agent, I was told that the interview waiver was removed by an officer for my spouse’s case. This raised some concern for me.
Currently, my spouse’s case status still shows:
“RFE response received on December 18 (related to polio). We will notify you when a decision has been made.”
My question is: Is it normal for dependent applicants to receive green card approval at a later stage than the primary applicant, potentially with an interview request, even when the primary applicant is already approved?
Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Congrats @samy malhotra! Hopefully, the interview for your spouse will be smooth! Yes, both of you can get approved at different times. Are you or your spouse from any of the full/partial banned countries? Maybe that was why the waiver was removed.
samy malhotraJan 6, 2026
@E A thanks no we both are from same country which is not in the banned list

Congrats @samy malhotra. Did your case move to a local office and were you interviewed?
samy malhotraJan 6, 2026
@Andy Gee no chated with live agent they told interview will be tehr for dependent but no date defined as of now.
Eb1_ 22Jan 6, 2026
do not rely on chat with live agent. if your case is approved via EB1 i guess the dependent s will be approved soon. probably this week or next unless they have any past records.

I’m in the same situation. I received my green card, but my spouse is still waiting. My wife has a travel document and a work permit — is it risky for her to travel?
samy malhotraJan 8, 2026
hi @Leo Nebra what is the status of her gc. did you check with the live agent? when did you get gc? how long? do you have any other dependent as well?

guys in the same boat, got i485 approved yesterday for myself (primary) and daughter (minor) but not for wife (Ead+ap combo approved), eb1 filed concurrently
S KFeb 2, 2026
@rishi_ rish congratulations on yours! what’s the status for your wife’s case? Is it ready for interview?
S KFeb 2, 2026
@samy malhotra my spouse’s interview is acheduled for Feb 27, a week after yours. please do update us your spouse’s experience after the interview. Also, in the documents section of interview notice point 2 mentions “bring i-693 evidence of medical exam and vaccination record in a sealed envelope (if not submitted within the last year). we submitted it along with our applications in October 2024. since the i-693 never expires if signed after November 2023, i assume this is just generic language used in the notice. what do you think?
samy malhotraFeb 2, 2026
@S K If your medical exam is from October 2024, you’ll need to go back to your doctor and redo only the TB injection part. We received an RFE for this in December 2025 and have already resubmitted it.
If you don’t redo it, you can take a chance—your case might still get approved, but it depends on the officer reviewing it. In 2024, many applicants received RFEs for the same reason, just like we did. could you help me what document you will be sending along with your spouse. just wanted to validate. yes letter is generic
S KFeb 2, 2026
@samy malhotra when did you submit original i-693 form for your spouse? was it signed before nov 1,2023? if signed after nov 2023, why the RFE? what do you mean by injection? do you mean TB testing? I had a quick glance on the list of documents mentioned on the notice and will try to prepare all of them such as birth certificate, copies of primary’s approved gc/485 notice, evidence of relationship (marriage certificate, tax return, statments of joint bank accounts/credit card, health/auto insurance etc). I might have missed something, but will follow the instructions on the notice and prepare accordingly.
samy malhotraFeb 2, 2026
hi @S K We completed the medical exam when we initially filed in October 2024. Later, both my spouse and I received RFEs for TB testing. The doctor administered the required TB vaccination and attached our previous medical forms along with the new TB vaccination records. We mailed the complete RFE response package to USCIS in December 2025. My petition was approved after that, but my spouse’s is still pending.
The medical form submitted in 2024 was valid until March 2025. After that, the new medical form requirement came into effect, which the doctors are aware of. I am not saying to do that but makinv you aware this is happening like in your case they even did not care and give approval
samy malhotraFeb 2, 2026

S KFeb 2, 2026
