i need some guidance: should i get a new lawyer?
hi, i’m waiting for my i-751 decision (with an abuse waiver.) I got an RFE on February for proof of abuse. sent affidavits, psychological evaluation, my therapy reports, threatening text messages from my ex & pictures of our old apartment from when he destroyed my belongings, our coffee table, etc. it’s been 87 days since they received it. my lawyer was not helpful with the rfe. i learned everything from forums, other free consultations. i also learned that this rfe could have been avoided SO EASILY if we did all of this when we sent my petition. other lawyers i talked to also told me that i overpaid to my current lawyer and should just send the rfe without changing my lawyer and ending up spending more. so that’s what i did. now that its been 87 days, i started to expect an interview and i’m terribly scared of going alone. its impossible to reach out to my lawyer. she probably will not show up. paralegal tells me not to worry but also does not tell me if someone will come with me. what are your thoughts? this is how my updates look like right now: Total Days: 723 days I-751 Start: Aug 11, 2023 Decision: N/A @Vermont Service Center ● Aug 11, 2023 / I-751 / Submission to USCIS ● Aug 22, 2023 / I-751 / Biometrics, i.e. fingerprint and photo ● Feb 10, 2025 / I-751 / Request for Evidence(RFE) from USCIS ● May 08, 2025 / I-751 / Response to RFE

you don’t have to go to the interview alone or with your current lawyer. one of those lawyers who helped with the RFe can go with you. talk to them and let them k ow you’ll need a lawyer for just the interview. ask them to help prep for the interview itself and then accompany you.

@ hope 🍯 , when you receive letter for Interview schedule, look for a Lawyer that will take like $500 to go with you for the interview. Good luck

thank you for responding @blessed & favored @GOD HAVE MERCY @It’s possible. do you think i should do it with a lawyer who does not know much about my case, though? maybe i should switch lawyers beforehand so they get to learn more about my case… i’m so indecisive

@ hope 🍯 request FOIA this is all the immigration case with USCIS they will send it to you, when you decide on the lawyer you can share this file(s) with them, they will review and then during your interview prep/mock the attorney will go over your entire immigration history and ask questions the officer might ask, praying you get approved without an interview since you already had a greencard before. But prepare just incase you get one.

Change your Lawyer. A good one will know what to do next and guide you, even though they do not know much about your specific case, they have experience with cases that can be similar, in the end, the laws are the same for everyone! do not loose your time or mental peace. good luck!!
