I-131 Reason for Filing
Can someone please explain why everyone tends to submit Form I-131 (advanced parole) when submitting I-485 (AOS)? The instructions on USCIS’s website say you have to provide evidence for reason of travel under either educational purposes, employment purposes, or humanitarian purposes. But most people don’t have those reasons so why file for I-131? I’m just confused

did you provide that statement within the I-131 form or as a separate document? and did it get approved? @kat xx

@Diana H When you submit it together with the I-485 it’s free. if you don’t need then don’t. However, if you send it separately in the future you’ll have to pay for it. So might as well submit it for free even though you’ll probably not use it.

@Diana H not necessarily. it’s treated as a different case. it can be at one FO and the other cases at another FO so there’s no dependency.

I submitted my i131 along with i485 in 2022 feb because I wanted to visit family while the applications were processing. although I attended the interview for i485 last week, the i131 case had absolutely no updates from 2022 till now. I only got a receipt
notice and that was it

@G G :- You make us scared now. My EAD and AP were delivered to USCIS on December 27, 2022. I got EAD yesterday but no AP approval till now.
