I-130 IR-1/CR-1 TSC
Have any of you been approved without needing the interview?
We have been married for 2 years now and continue to live separately. Only I can travel to Colombia because it doesn’t require for me to have a Visa. My husband only has his Colombian passport but unfortunately in order for him to at least visit me can’t because he doesn’t have a Visa. Which is why we began the process here, I’m the petitioner.
Best of luck to everyone!!

They will approved you in 3 months max then wait for one year to get an immigrant visa interview
Cher HenryApr 9, 2025
one year for visa interview date @Izere M
Sandy BecerraApr 9, 2025
why a year after being approved though? My understanding is that filing for a spouse once approved you receive everything (green card, social, etc) that way he can start working immediately and we would be able to travel without a waiting period.

Nop thats how many people get it wrong @Sandy Becerra ... 130 approval doesn't give you a GC. You still have to wait for a year or more (in addition to 16 months) to have your CR1/IR1 interview scheduled then do medical and attend interview... If all goes well, wait for 1-3 weeks to have your visa stamped in your passport- GC petitioners wait way longer than that. It is brutal and traumatizing 😢

@Cher Henry thats correct. 1 year just to receive IL

@Sandy Becerra of course he needs to go to an interview like everybody else w this type of visa, they will ask him questions to make sure the marriage is real, check his docs more detail etc, n he also needs to do a special medical check up before the interview, the wait of the interview after approval of docs depends on the country, for example in Poland, Kazakhstan it’s only about a month, in countries where more ppl do this process like Mexico, Turkey it takes a year, according to comments above Colombia is one of these countries

@Izere M wow and that is not what it states on their website. My husband doesn’t plan on being here without working. Our understanding is that they have to wait for a year when applying as a fiancé but when you are married you get it when approved, do not need to wait. It makes no sense to misinform through their website. That is annoying.

@Polina B I guess in the end it is also pure luck because some people have been approved without the interview and faster than expected. Plus it does state online that it the interview and/or biometrics may not be necessary. Some folks have been lucky enough to not be asked for those. It is just a waiting game I guess and see what happens.
Sandy BecerraApr 9, 2025
In some cases, a biometrics appointment and or an interview will not be necessary.
For more information regarding biometrics, visit the USCIS biometrics page.
*that is exactly how it states on the website*

@Sandy Becerra but we r talking about ur visa, in ur case it’s 100% interview, n biometrics too, mostly it’s together w an interview, in Latin America they like doing this before an interview in the “pre check”
Polina BApr 10, 2025
@Sandy Becerra n yes, they sometimes approve docs earlier, but w an interview in the exact embassy after approval it’s not a luck, it’s a line

@Sandy Becerra “There are some instances where the USCIS may grant your form I-130 without requiring you to attend an interview. This may be the case if you are already a US citizen and are filing for your parents or unmarried children under the age of 21 who are in the US and have filed a form I-485. Another instance where you may not have to attend an interview is if you are a permanent resident who is filing for one of your children who is under the age of 14. The USCIS may be able to waive the interview if there are any age or health factors, such as the examples above with an older family member or child or for situations with consular processing.
The USCIS may also remove the need for an interview if you have had previous interviews with the USCIS” that’s it

@Polina B I am a US citizen. I believe there was a misunderstanding. I am glad that I haven’t been asked to have a visa when I visit my husband in Colombia.

@neni Sierra muchas gracias. Dios quiera que todo salga bien.
