How To: EXPEDITE REQUEST
Below is how to submit an expedite request from my own experience. it's lengthy, but I've included every steps that I took when I submitted mine last month. Here it is:
- Call USCIS: +1-800-375-5283 , and say, "expedite request". Call between 8am and 8pm ET from Monday to Friday. 8am is better as the wait is shorter to non existent.
- Once speaking to a live agent, explain your situation. They'll ask you a bunch of questions to identify yourself, so get your I-797 ready as you will need it for the answers.
- After the call, gather all the evidences that you have to prove your claims because if your request is then passed to a USCIS officer for review, they might send you an email to request those documents and with information on how to send them.
- Get on this website to find who your representative is: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
- Once you have that information, go on Google or any search engine of your choice and type, "how to contact (representative's name)". For instance if your representative's name is ABC XYZ, Then you will type, "how to contact ABC XYZ". You should then find the website of their home state office, where you'll also find their email address and phone number for the office. You should also find information on how to get in touch with them if you need them to reach any US agency on your behalf, along with documents that you will need to sign (by hand) and send along with all your supporting documents. You should find all that information on their website.
- Gather the documents to sign, print them, fill them out, and scan. Then, in an email, attach the signed document(s) with all your supporting documents for the expedite request. You may also type in an email explaining the situation and pleading with the representative to assist you. Keyword: plead, not beg. It is worth including that you submitted a request already and insert your request number that USCIS gave you, to demonstrate the urgency of your situation.
- Once you sent that email, call them to make sure that they have received the email. You will be speaking to one of the representative's assistants. Introduce yourself, tell them why you're calling (the expedite request), and then add that you just submitted supporting documents and you want to make sure they've received the email. And also ask that they check the documents to make sure you have sent everything they need. They will tell you on the spot if they have everything or if something is missing. Keep this conversation cordial but don't kiss their shoes either. I mean, be friendly and not beggy or desperate, even if you are desperate. (We file expedite requests because we are desperate, and that's the truth). Listen to what the assistant tells you and go from there.
At this point you will have 2 requests submitted together with USCIS. From there, you will just have to wait and see what happens. USCIS will contact you, whether it is to request more documents from you, or let you know the decision they've made on your request: approval means your EAD will be approved too, usually in the same day. Denial means that your EAD will be processed/approved when it will be its turn in the line.
Please, keep in mind that expedite requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the USCIS officer who reviews each request make decisions at their own discretion. That means that an expedite request can be very compelling and still be denied, whether it was sent by you or your representative.
Good luck. 🙂

T M - I was April 1/2, 2021. (USCIS kept going back and forth between the two dates). but I got my EAD approved on November 9, and received it on the 17.

@did you get ssn? @lilo pekai?
Lilo PelekaiNov 24, 2021
Ana - my case is slightly different. I've had my SSN since 2008. so, now I just apply for the EAD and the renewals.

hi @Lilo Pelekai
I had an email saying that they accepted my request since the 15th of November that means I can still hope🙏
Lilo PelekaiNov 24, 2021
G R - indeed. 🙂
thought did they say "approved" or "accepted"? because there is a difference between the 2. acceptance is that an officer accepted to review your expedite request and is processing it while approval means the request was approved/granted and your case will be adjudicated sooner than it was supposed to be. acceptance can result in a denial.
G RNov 24, 2021
the first time I did the expedite, not even that acceptance email I had received was as if it were nothing.
Lilo PelekaiNov 24, 2021
G R - I didn't understand 😶

😂🤦♀️
I’m sorry
I said that the first time I did expedite I didn't receive any email until today it was completely ignored by them
Lilo PelekaiNov 24, 2021
A O - it depends on your situation and what you're submitting the request for. for instance, for financial loss to a person (you) you must provide anything that proves financial loss to you: a job offer, a deadline from the company that could show that you will lose the offer/job if you don't have the EAD by a certain date, medical bills, letter from your employer, ... anything that will support the claim that you make to expedite your request for financial loss to you.

A O - you're very welcome! good luck to you! 🤗

lilo did they ever send you an email saying your case was forwarded to the proper department?
Lilo PelekaiNov 24, 2021
Deds - nope. the only email that I got from them was to tell me that they had taken action on my expedite request, with the request number that they had given me. when I logged into my USCIS account, I saw that my EAD petition was approved. my account never updated to reflect an expedite request. but I'll never know whether either request did the trick as a USCIS officer has told me the week before that my EAD was in line to be approved within days with or without any expedite request. at that time the ER was still pending (unassigned to anyone) on his screen.

@.lilo I did not understand.. how did you get a chance to talk to uscis officer that in a week it will be approved
Lilo PelekaiDec 3, 2021
y k - the post tells you how to get to talk to an agent. 🙂 in my case and because of the timing, mine happened to be close to adjudication with or without an expedite request. it had been 7 months. so, from what he had on his screen, he told me when to expect the case to be approved. 🙂
y kDec 3, 2021
oh ok and in a week it did get approved
Lilo PelekaiDec 3, 2021
y k - yes. 🙂
