hi everyone! question about SSN
My current SSN says Valid for Work Only With DHS Authorization.
I got work permits last and went to SSN office to get a new card without the phrase.
howeve, the staff told me that I can get a new SSN once my green card is approved.
is this true?
my friend in the same situation but she got a new SSN.
I’m confused…

SSN without restriction will only be available to you after GC Approval. Before that, is with restriction.

Hello! Yes, that is correct. Your SSN will have that phrase until you receive your green card. Right now with your EAD, you only have temporary access to work.

can one use the EAD SSN to get a driver’s license or start getting credit with credit cards?
