there isn’t renewal for RTD. the same process again. submit a new form and go through the same process.

You will have to apply for a new one. I-131 average processing time is currently 16 months

@yasi jani I recently renewed my Refugee Travel Document by filing Form I-131. If you are 16 or older, the filing fee for an RTD is $165. I recommend applying well before your current document expires because processing times can be long. I also would not send the original RTD unless USCIS specifically asks for it. I’m not an attorney; I’m just sharing my personal experience.

if your rtd is not expired before you applying. uscis will ask your current rtd

I sent my original RTD with my new I-131 application while it was still valid and not expired. USCIS returned my original RTD to me, and they also did not charge me a filing fee. I’m just sharing what happened in my personal case.

@yasi jani Yes, you can travel while your RTD is still valid. Just make sure the country you’re traveling to accepts a Refugee Travel Document that is close to expiring, because some countries require 3 or 6 months of validity remaining. Also check the airline’s requirements before you travel.
