Could you give me an opinion? In December I will be celebrating 5 years since my lawyer submitted my application for residency based on a year of asylum and I have not been approved. Two years ago I made my fingerprints and 5 months ago I applied them to my case. I am desperate for my work permit. expired

hi @D L, I expedited my application based on humanitarian reasons (a sick family member) I called uscis and let them know I wanted to expedite my case, after that I had mail them my supporting documents like doctors affidavit explaining the condition of the sick family member and I wrote a cover later explaining the situation as well and let them know why I am eligibile for an expedited review of my application. You could also request it based on other categories like national security if that’s in the best interest of the government or nonprofit organization if you are employed by one. the most common is humanitarian reasons. But the decision depends 100% on uscis officier assigned to your case

hello @Singh Feb2023 I suggest you join the Air Force Reserve it’s more educational oriented than other branches in my opinion. they pay for your school 100%, very low cost hearth and life insurance and if you are an noncitizen you become us citizen right on your graduation day after 7 week and half of basic military training. you also get hands on the job training and security clearance which are more beneficial in your civilian life. The requirements to join is to be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National or have 10 years green card, be physically fit and have a minimum of high school diploma.

hello @b£ll@ Emanuel 5 years that’s very long, you could submit a case inquiry on the uscis website, or submit and expedited review. if you have an asylum status you don’t need work permit as long as you removed the condition from your social security that says “valid for work only with DHS authorization”. if you want to renew it you have to pay money for nothing. just try to expedite if you have a valid reason to do so like I explain above or submit a case inquiry.

@Singh Feb2023 you are very welcome. yes go to the website for every branches and look for what you might like. For me I really enjoy the Air Force they don’t give us very hard time like army or marines loool.

can you join the army with a conditional green card ?

hi @King N First of all thank you for your help and support. I have an addition to your question regarding expediting a Green card based on Asylum. You said a sick family member (humanitarian reasons) but it means that you need to travel to that sick family member, right? If yes, then I suppose your family member is in your homecountry where you aren’t allowed to travel as an asylee. This part confuses me. Could you please explain in a bit more details? thank you

my brother came across the border and apply for asylum he’s dating a green card holder they are planning to married can he married her and she files for him since she is a green card holder

@arm wa yes you can join army or any other branch with conditional green card except the Air Force.

@Pablo Escobar I made the request for my I-485 application for green card. i was in removal proceedings when I applied for asylum so the judge asked me if I wanted the case to be expedited and I said yes without giving any reason. As I said above there are other reasons you could request an expedited review of your application it depends on your particular situation.

@pet pet He can but it will take longer because uscis gives priority to U.S. spouses and relatives first, then followed by those of green card holders.

@Cristina BH I think the method lawfully use to determine how long your case will be processed is just to give you an idea of how long a similar case have been processed in the past. You can’t be for sure unless uscis tells you so. Plus your receipt number for I90 serves as automatic extension to your green card for 24 months (2 years). Your status is legal and you can use that receipt to work, travel and apply or renew your driver’s license. it is exactly like your physical green card. I believe it is written in your receipt notice that they extended your status. and also if you are eligible to apply for citizenship while your I90 is pending you can go ahead and do so without any issue. Hey King N. thank you in advance for your help. on 08/21/23 I went to my citizenship interview. the officer gave me a paper saying that I passed but decisión can not be made. I change my name and the system haven’t update anything since interview.

@jinan youness is your EAD based on pending asylum application? if so, the uscis website says about 15.5 months or so, but it could be less. Good new is that your receipt notice serves as extension to your work authorization for 24 months. you can use that receipt plus your expired EAD to show as prove of work authorization. best of lucks

hi @Emanuel Duarte it took about 24 hours for me to find out about my approval on the website, I recommend you call the uscis contact center and ask to speak with an agent and they might be able to help you. Or you could wait 1 to 2 weeks and keep checking your online account maybe you will hear something. But if you passed citizenship test then you shouldn’t worry, I’m pretty sure it will be an approval at this point. best of lucks

Hi @S D lama the uscis website says about 10 months but it depends. the fastest field office I heard of is Cleveland Ohio. Good luck
