GC 6 months out of the country
Hello, I know that when you have the green card and want to get the citizen you cannot be outside the country for more than 6 months, my question is, must they be months in a row or are they cumulative as if in one year I was outside the country for 3 weeks and in the next year one month

you can’t be outside of US more than 6 months at once because it seems to them that you are not a resident , by going each year 3 - 4 weeks at a time is not an issue.

You can be out of the US for 6months in one calender year but it does put your Permanent Residence status in jeopardy. It also affects you during the N-400 application except you have strong evidence/reason that kept you away for that long. The 6months they meant is cumulatively within a year.

@Jane Frances ,Yes covid lockdown qualifies as strong reason. Most nation's borders were closed then anyways
