For Potomac I-751 filers . Do not file N400. It will result in combo interview and delay GC further
I applied for 1-751 on 1/12/2021 (Jan 2021) . It was
Potomac and so wait was long . Everybody told me to apply for N400 including lawyers to speed up the process .
I ended up applying for N400 in November 2022 (11/23/2022) . Then I saw that everybody who did that got combo interview and after interview had to wait 2-3 more months. Meanwhile people who just applied 1-751 got approved without interview even with divorce waiver . In my case I am seeing many January 2021 and Feb 2021
Potomac being approved but I still have to go through combo interview in end July and then probably wait for 2-3 months to get citizenship. Meanwhile GC will still remain temporary till then . So my suggestion is apply for N400 only after you get your 1-751 approved and 10 year GC in hand . This is a PSA for all Potomac I-751 filers.

@DJ B This isn’t entirely true. if you file N-400 immediately your window opens then your I-751 will cause it to go faster and you will have a combo interview. However, if you wait to file N-400 closer to the processing of your I-751 like you did, then it will delay your I-751. It’s simply poor timing that is delaying you not N-400.

@Rocco Forté Thats why it makes more sense to wait for I-751 to be processed before applying for N400. I have seen several cases where people have applied N400 in advance but still have their cases delayed . Besides they had combo interview and then had to wait 3 months for further updates . With just I-751 you don’t have to wait for an interview and just get it processed during the processing time . I am suggest anyone who’s is waiting for over a year for I-751 to not apply for N400.

Besides it’s an additional $700 to apply for N400 only to see it take more time . For anyone , wait till you get 10 years GC before applying for N400 to avoid being in limbo longer .

@DJ B Hi, Due to my wife miscarriage pragnancy I rescheduled my I-751 interview. can I apply N-400 or wait until I-751 interview scheduled. please share your thoughts.
DJ BJun 23, 2023
@R K if you already received your I-751 interview date you can apply for N400. That interview will happen later I guess. This is for those who are still waiting on any news and movement on their I-751.

Every case is unique and different from others NO MATTER the service center. Feel free to share your experience but DO NOT urge others to not file their N400. filing N400 actually speeded up my case. November 2021 filed I-751. November 2022 submitted N400. became citizen May 2023.

I really believe you, because I filed for my N400 while 1-751 is still pending and I got an interview date for my N400 in April did the interview passed it but officer said my 1-51 is still pending so he can’t make any decisions right now…. am yet to see any update on my 1-751 (Potomac )
