FAFSA
Hi everyone! I need some advice. I have an approved VAWA case, and my green card is currently pending. I’m thinking about applying for FAFSA (federal student aid) to help with school, but I’m worried it might affect my green card process?? Has anyone in a similar situation applied for FAFSA? Did it cause any issues with your immigration process or green card? I’d really appreciate any insights!l

@A C how much for the tuition they covered you ? l live in New York ,when l get my prima Facie l would like to apply for it .currently l am taking GED Classes .

For the fact that your VAWA has been approved, you stand better chance than those with PRIMA Facie and it will not have any impact on your GC application

@AUG 22 the odds are still the same. @sara tb once you apply for vawa you automatically qualify for federal aid as a benefit. Some schools use it and some are more challenging so make sure to ask the finance office before you apply to the school. I've used it, completed a bachelor and almost done with a masters and my vawa was only approved in May, so go ahead, you're good. I also got a lifetime amount of $129,000 so I didn't even need to apply for a secondary loan to cover any extra tuition.

prima facie means your vawa would be approved period, and your green card would be approved ar well

@Christine N the lifetime amount is the maximum the federal government will give you for school. Undergrad was about $57k for me but increased to $129,000 when I applied to grad school. What they give depends on your tax status and whatever else they calculate as family contribution so it's different for everyone. @Rosy ann not all schools know what a prima facie is so you'd have to check with the bursary to see if whichever school you're interested in uses it. I attend purdue global and they sent me a link or whatever to upload my status, which I submit the PF notice and that was all.
