EAD Renewal
I have been granted asylum in May 2022. My EAD expired FEB 2022 along with my driver’s license and I went to local DMV to renew my driver’s license with I-94 stamp asylum granted indefinitely and my I-485 application being pending for almost a year at that time. They gave me a hard time but eventualy accepted my files and said they will issue a new DL, and gave me a temporary one as usual, however it has been more than a month and I still did not receive the plastic in my mail. What should I do? Should I renew my EAD again in order for the state to issue a DL to me? I really don’t want to pay another $400+ fee for it, I am self employed I don’t need to show EAD to anyone and with the asylum granted I am allowed to work 🤷♀️Have anyone been in the same situation? TIA

Hello! Try contacting the U.S. Department of Justice
Civil Rights Division Immigrant and Employee Rights Section . They will help you. The DMV is getting worse every year and proving to them that they are violating your rights is becoming impossible. In what state are you applying for a license? CA? You can also check your SAVE uscis status yourself. The DMV uses this system to verify your status. The wait for a Green Card can take up to 4 years, so I recommend doing an EAD.

I have the same issue that’s why I decided to applied for my work permit just to have something to show as it seems a lot of people don’t have the knowledge of the I-94 asylum approval. what if did , I apply for the EAD and attached a copy of the I-485 payment and received notice ( applied March 2023) with that I applied on January 2024 and the EAD was approved February 2024 . I’m not sure if you can still apply for your EAD with the copy of your I-485 receipt and payment as of April 1st the fees increased .

@ Thank you, yes I contacted DMV by email and they said my files are under review and if the temporary DL expires, which it does in mid may, to go make another one so at this point I will most likely renew my EAD I guess, I have been waiting since april 2023 for my I-485 to be approved and I still hope they will approve it like tomorrow lol 😂

as soon as you are granted for asylum, one year after you can apply for a green card and work authorization, but no fee for your work permit only the green card application you have to pay.

you have to apply for it that is the right you have as soon as you’re granted for asylum, I know it takes a long period to get it but apply for it.
