Hi there, you can apply within 180 days before your current expires, there’s automatic 540days extension that applied for pending I-485 which applies as soon as you receive receipt number. It takes about 3 months to be approved and get actual card. If you filed your Form I‑485 on or after April 1, 2024, and it's still pending, you'll pay $260 for Form I‑765 (online or paper) and if you filed before April 1st 2024 it’s free. However if you file online you’ll pay the fee anyways in both cases. (At least that’s how it was for me, filed for renewal on February 28th, got my card May 29th of this year, I filed online and did pay 260, got receipt number instantly and I needed it cause I filed it on the expiry date)
