📢 Asylum Case Update & Need Advice
Hi everyone,
I applied for asylum on March 25, 2025, and had my interview on June 3, 2025.
After the interview, the officer kept my original passport and all original documents, and gave me a letter stating that they are retaining the documents for further review (for affidavits, etc.).
Then on June 9, 2025, my online status changed to “Application Pending”, and it has remained the same since then.
I would like to ask the group — has anyone else experienced something similar? Is this normal, or should I be concerned? Any expert opinions or members’ experiences would be really helpful. 🙏

It’s quite common for asylum cases to remain at “Application Pending” for weeks or even months after the interview, especially if USCIS is reviewing additional documents or needs more time for security/background checks. Officers sometimes retain original documents for further verification, and they usually provide a receipt or notice when they do so. This doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem—it can be part of the standard process.
Many applicants experience long waits after the interview. The timeline can vary depending on case complexity, caseload in your area, and sometimes background/security reviews. If you received a letter stating your documents are being retained for review, that’s normal procedure.
… good luck 👍
