Combo card v.s H1B
Hey guys,
if you are currently under H1B and it will not expire until 2 years later, also you just received your combo card and you want to change employers.
would you prefer using combo card to change the employer or asking the new employer to transfer your current H1B?
what would be the pros and cons of each case scenario?

Is your I485 employment based on family based? H1B is a dual intent visa and a good non-immigrant status to have while adjusting your status. Also, if there is any issue with the 485 you can have continued eligibility to live and work in the US. If your I485 is employment based the you need to file I485J when you accept a new job USCIS will determine whether or not the job is similar or same. So if there are any issues there you still have H1B as backup. H1B is also a safer visa to have for travel when compared to AP. So if your new employer can sponsor you should ask for it. You did not mention your country of birth. If you are ROW then you are likely ok, but if you are from India or China PD retrogression is a real thing depending on your EB category.
I'm waiting on my EB1 I485 and I insisted that my employer renew H1B and they happily did that for me. I now have a combo card and an approved H1B. safe bet.

thank you so much for the information! I probably will go with the same route.
